I have new points and a condenser for my 240z and I forgot how to gap the points correctly. I have the feeler gauge tool to gap the points with, but I need some instructions on how to do this correctly. Does anyone know a website that has good instructions on how to do this? Or could someone explain to me how I'm supposed to gap the points correctly?

I noticed that the temperature on my 240z is fine when I'm driving it(just under 1/2), but it sometimes rises to 3/4 when the car is idling at a stoplight. What's causing this problem? Could it be the radiator?

I have several L6 heads and I'm going to use one of them on a stroker build. I want to get the head ported and polished and don't know whether to farm it out to a person accomplished in this process or take the time to learn how to do it myself (probably learning on a broken head and then going to work on the desired one). If I were to farm it out, what would be a reasonable price to pay for this? Alternatively, how many hours would it take for a novice-to-middling "porter" to do an entire head? I'm sure several members have gone down both of these routes and hope to benefit from those experiences.

I have a early 1974 260 z with msd 6a ,8910 , blaster 2 coil ,e12/80 dissy.I hooked up the dissy ,msd 6a and engine runs great. but I can not get the tack working! unplug the harness from the ballast resister and was left with 3 wires in the plug . black /white tracer, blue solid, black /blue tracer. there was a seperate 12volt wire in with the harness that I used for the 12volt switch feed, black with white tracer. I believe the blue wire runs my tack, when I hooked up the blue wire with just the coil and e12/80 on the neg. side tack would jump around. so I installed several resistors in line trying to get the tack working with no luck. so I went with msd equipment. s…

Just looking at my oil pump to see about taking it out to get to the timing chain. Looks like it may hit the sway bar and not have enough room to come out. Anybody have experience with this? Bob

On my 240z, the L shaped tube that comes out of the valve cover to connect to the breather hose fits very loosely in the whole. I can just pull it right out if I want to. After looking at pictures of other 240z engines, I noticed that there is supposed to be a little sleeve that goes in the hole to make the breather elbow fit tightly in the hole. The problem is, I can't find the damn thing anywhere. Does anyone have one or know where I can get one?

When putting an R200 diff into an early Z, is there any clearance problems with the diff restraining strap? I had to "squeeze her in" when I converted my early 71 to the longer drive shaft and diff mount. Will I have the same problem with the diff strap when I change out the 180 to the 200?

Well I have a pretty bad oil leak from between the engine and trans. It drips pretty constantly with the car running. I plan to do a Manual Trans swap when fixing the seal (can't have oil on the clutch); Is it possible to just replace the seal after pulling the trans? Or do I HAVE to drop the oil pan? Do I HAVE to remove the rear main cap too? How far in and how do I drive in the new pilot bushing for the manual? Thanks

I had my mechanic install an 83 280zx 5 speed tranny (3.90) and an R200 diff out of the same car into my 70 Z. I believe the driveshaft was from the same car (driveshaft has 83 280zx written on it in marker). The driveshaft measures 22 3/4" from center of u-joint to center of u-joint at other end (as best as I can measure). I used a diagram from Arne to find measuring points (see below). I want to make sure that I have the correct driveshaft in my car. The reason I am concerned is that I am getting a large bang/clunk when hard accelerating in 1st gear, and it is possible the spline end could be hitting the tranny upon high torque (?), thus making the noise. Any thou…

Hey guys...some good news/bad news for my 71 240Z. Apparently cylinder 6 is chewing oil...some blue smoke out the rear and the spark plug looks sooty. I'm wondering what my options are if I want to keep running the engine as is...I imagine everything will run OK if I just keep checking the oil level and replacing the spark plug every oil change or so. Your opinions on that. As for the good news, I'm willing to dish out a decent amount on a new motor...the Z shop I go to normally (ALT Z) is asking close to $5500 to rebuild my engine top to bottom. Seems a bit high, some guy told me he could help me put a skyline motor (RB25) and transmission in for that price. However I'm …
