Where can I find a new or close to new valve cover for a 240z? I've been looking all over for one and the only ones I can find are powder coated.

I'm trying to install a driveshaft on a 72 240. Everything is stock and it's the same one that came out of it. I have it seated well in the front, the rear end on jack stands, and the parking brake off to allow for free movement. I can't get the thing in because it's a flange length too long! I've read my manuals and they all say to take it out and install is reverse. I don't know how hard I'm supposed to try and force it in. Of my internet research, the only thing I could find that was suggested was to have the transmission in neutral. Most searches I found were about swaps. It was in gear when I tried it earlier and I have not tried it in neutral. Is there a thre…

Following up on my prior posts, the machine shop removed my cam towers when they worked on my head. Unfortunately, I didn't get the opportunity to spin the cam prior to this, so I don't have a baseline to determine if my cam is spinning easily enough. I have all the rockers out and can turn (I wouldn't say spin) the cam with one hand. I can't turn it with just my fingers. I don't feel any binding, but wonder if the cam should turn easier. Is turning by one hand about right? Bob

Hi folks, I have added some new pics to my photobucket page of my winter engine project. I have refreshed/replaced alot of parts and while I wait to order more stuff, (just need more $$) I thought I would do a pre-assembly assembly. I am happy with the look so far. Nothing has been torqued down as of yet, just couldn't wait to see it together.... http://s357.photobucket.com/albums/oo16/mikes73z/ Mike

Currently have a high compression L28 n42 with E88 head in a Datsun 240k that i'd like to transplant into my 240Z while its L28 f54 is out for a rebuild. Is this a fairly simple swap? I've got a spare zed sump & pickup, the sump will fit up easy its the pickup that I'm unsure of, as some searching I've done mentions 2 pickup points or extending the pickup tube? It's interesting to note that even on this front sump motor the dipstick is in the same rear spot as my zed motor. Just after some advise on attacking this or just fit one of my low comp motors out my other zed junk cars. steve

I have the head off my engine along with everything but the crank and pistons. Everything was set at TDC before removal. What I am wondering is as I was cleaning up everything I was assuming ( I know) that if I went 1 revolution the 1st piston was now on the exhaust stroke so I went another turn to be back on the firing stroke. Is this correct or does it not matter without the timing chain in place? It will be awhile before I start re-assembly but I was just wondering if this will be an issue. In other words, is there a difference when my #1 piston is at TDC on what stroke it is? I haven't removed the timing gear or oil pump gear from the crank. Thanks for any help. Mike
