Can someone tell me what an early 5-speed gear box should be worth. This would be the FS5C71A (Roadster box with extended tail section & different bellhousing). How much with ultra close or middle close ratios?

Has anybody here bought an aluminum radiator from AEON Imports? They sell an aluminum 3 row 75-78 Z radiator for $140. My radiator is shot and it looks like there are no local stores that can get me one here in Michigan, so my choices are MSA's 4 row for $200+shipping or an aluminum on off eBay for anywhere from $140 to $250+shipping. My car is a manual and I'd rather not give up the bottom of the radiator for the trans cooler that I won't use. Most of the radiators now come only wih the trans cooler so they don't have to make two different units. From what I understand, copper/brass radiators are slightly better than aluminum for heat rejection, so I don't really ca…

Hey guys, after taking a break from my car for the past few weeks, I am back at playing around with it. Last week I replaced the distributor with a rebuilt unit and still cannot get it to run quite right. When I start it cold, it sounds smooth and revs nicely. Once it warms up it degrades, the idle seems off and when I try to drive it it misses and I can hear an occasional backfire thru the air cleaner area. I could not get the timing set before, but now with the new distributor, I can dial it where it should be. Too date, this is what I have done. Replaced, ignition coil, wires, distributor, cap, rotor, plugs and battery. Also put in new injectors and wires and fuel regu…

Got my tranny mounted-up! It's not fully buttoned-up, but it's attached and bolted-in semi-tight. Can't work on her any more this weekend, but hope to have the starter and clutch slave installed with everything tight by next weekend. Then next weekend I can start working on finishing-up the engine compartment. It may actually be complete someday!

I am in the process of removing all my valves to clean up the mess of very old dirty sticky gooey slime and carbon covering the head. One of the books suggest I don't even think about taking off the cam support towers as they are bored in place. I want to de-grease and hose off the head and I was wondering if I should slide the cam out to prevent water from entering the bearings in the towers. Visually looking at the cam though, it looks to me that the lobes have a larger OD then the bearings and I would not be able to slide it out? Anyone with experience with this situation? If it's as easy as removing the retaining plate and sliding it out I may try it, if not, will hos…

Ok check this out: I found a couple things on my '78 280z which I have no idea what they are. I know, I know, I probably haven't read the FSM all the way through - but hey-- being the lazy guy I am, I thought I'd avail myself to everyone's help on the forum. Does anyone know what these things are? First pic shows the fusible links - but what are those vacuum-solenoid looking things to the left of them? And why aren't they hooked up!!! The other pic shows the ignition coil. Is this some sort of capacitor? If so, should it be plugged in to something? If yes, to what? Thanks for all the help! -Aaron

I just scored an R180 w/ 4.11 gearing in great shape, very tight. I can't wait to drive it again when the long Massachusetts winter ends around April. I think the jump from the stock 3.36 to 4.11 will have it performing like it should. I want to do a 5-speed swap at the same time if anyone in the MA/RI area has one for sale. Thanks.

I've heard about a neoprene valve cover gasket for L-series engines, and I'd like to try one to address some minor "weeping" from my valve cover. Its very minor, I've lost less than a quart all summer, but its leaving spots on my nice new garage floor. Does anyone know a source for this type gasket? Yes, I tried re-torquing the bolts a few times since I finished the motor, none were loose - no change.

I'm having difficulty getting the fill plug out of my transsmission. Based on what I saw from removing the drain plug, the PO used red loctite and a ga-zillion ft-lbs of torque to install them. So far all I've managed to do is ruin one 17 mm end wrench and slightly round a couple corners of the plug. Two days of alternating heat and spraying w/ CRC Freze-Off has had no effect. The plug looks to be 17 mm square across the flats. I've been looking for a square socket, but all I can find is 11/16". (Craftsman, Snap-On, McMaster-Carr). I can't install the tranny untill this is solved... Any ideas, tricks or a source of where to get the right size socket? Thanks,

Moved the engine to the basement this weekend to start the refresh and find out why I have a sticky valve in cyl. #3. I have all winter to play with it so I'm in no hurry. Not very pretty now but hope to have a brand new looking/running engine by next spring when I can work on the bodywork when it warms up. Winters suck.I]

Does anyone have any information on changing the fuel injection system on my 77 280Z to mass air and getting rid of that crappy flop door meter? i know that it has to be a major restriction to airflow, and after all, air is power
