I saw this link over on hybridz and am curious. http://www.crank-scrapers.com/products/Datsun%20-%20Nissan.html What do you guys know and think about crank scrapers? After reading a bit on the site above it sounds like a good investment for the price...but then again they are the ones selling them so that's what they want you to think.

I was cleaning up the Z interior the other day and decided I was going to try to refresh my stock gear shift knob. But as I tried to unscrew it, the whole shift lever turned, and seemingly never came out. I am not familiar with what the bottom end of the shift lever looks like without the boot, but I know whatever is under there is original and has had 37 years of light use. (69000 miles). how does the base of the shifter connect to the tranny, and is there a fix for the shift lever spinning, as I would rather it be firm and fixed in place.

Is it possible to install a TH350 or TH350c in a 76 280Z using the adapter from MSA to the L28, or is this adapter for V8 motor conversions only? I ask this bc my trans is weak and I have a TH350c from my old Monte that I plan to rebuild. How about the u-joint/driveshaft connection, shifter connection? thanks I cant seem to find rebuild kits for the stock Z auto tranny

This is one thing that I never thought about until it happened to me. I went to the 7-11 down the street from my house and at that time I was having problems starting my 75 280. I went to pull the hood latch cable & all of a sudden the whole cable came out with my hand so I pushed it back in. I thought for a minute and then tried it again. Well it sure didn't do me any good. I sat there for a while until she decided to finally start and I went home. All of you classic Z car owners- best put a back-up cable so that you won't have the same trouble. If you do have this problem then e-mail me & I can tell you what to make to open the hood of your own Z. Stacey Pike- C…

I recently picked up a 70 series 1 and was going through the receipts that came with it and noticed that during a rebuild in 78 the owner had to replace the head. This prompted a mad dash to the garage to see if they found a e31 head or bought an e88. Its an e88. My questions start with this one: If the head was replaced did they have to replace the intake and/or exhaust manifolds too? I think the intake manifold says e48 on it. Any benefit to picking up and rebuilding a e31 head? (performance, value, gas mileage, etc.) TIA John

I finally got to fire up the engine today and like I expected it was not a glorious roar of inline 6 goodness. More like a dull thud. Help me troubleshoot... Here's what I have L28, reman, compression 160# all cylinders P79 with very mild cam (specs unknown, but had very little lope when I heard it run) Previously set up for triple Webers...I have new Z Therapy SUs on an N36 intake Non-emissions balance tube Pertronix ignition, known good coil (at least, it worked prior to disassembly), all spark plug wires have 5k resistance (8mm Energy Core wires). Here's what I've noted: Turns over great. All electrics work fine Backfires through the front carb (more like a li…

Every once in a while when I go to start my car, I get a grinding high pitched screeching sound, that will stop when I stop turning the ignition. It sounds like the flywheel grinding or something. It isn't often although kind of random. I suspect this is either, the starter; or the flywheel. I know the flywheel's don't go bad easily; although I know if a few of the teeth get worn down or knocked off this can cause it. I had a lincoln a few years back that did this, I think it went away when I changed the starter. The starter in my car looks relatively new though, so I'm not exactly sure if thats it. Any ideas guys? Anyone else ever have this issue?

Looking for advice on a clutch and flywheel for my 72. I am having Rebello rebuild the engine (240 hp, oh my gosh) and they say the 75 280z sachs clutch will hold for me but the flywheel is up to me. Use stock or a lightened. I don't have a local shop to resurface the stock and I heard it is hard to get it done right if they will do at all. Arizona Z car has sold out of their 11.75lb billet steel. Jun chromolly is rumored to be thin and shows heat marks through the other side leaving me with Fidanza aluminum and steel mixture or the motorsport auto steel. Motorsport cautions the use of the stock clutch with their lightened flywheel recommending the centerforce II clutch. …

Quick question: I need a new air flow meter for a '78 280z. Does anybody know whether an AFM from a pre-'78 280z will work in a '78? Nissan shows a different part no. for the AFM for 280's after 8/77, which indicates that it will not. It is of course NLA from Nissan so used or reman are the only remaining options. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks!

Like to know if a R160 Ring and Pinion Gear will swap directly into a R200. If so are there any inherent defencies doing so?
