My recent escapade with adjusting my clutch has gone great! There is one thing now. Over the past day or so, my clutch (which is stiff, great!) has started making a Creaky sound when I let up on it. It sounds like an old creaky door opening. This hasn't effected the clutch/performance at all, but sounds kinda weird. Has anyone experienced this? Could it most likely be fixed with some WD40 or grease? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Well, big thanks to Rex for coming over and helping me out and letting me borrow the tranny jack! Anyway, here's the story. Tranny blew out, so I replaced the tranny with another 5 speed, replaced the clutch master and slave, replaced the clutch fork (just in case), replaced the clutch collar with the correct 280Z one, installed a freshly resurfaced flywheel (sprayed with brake parts cleaner to remove any grease), installed new throwout bearing, and installed the brand new centerforce II clutch/pressure plate. Putting it back in was a bitch and a half, but I bled the clutch and got all the air bubbles out. Now to the meat of the post: After replacing all of this, I was ex…

I have a 77 280z. The previous owner installed a salvage motor but never finished installing. I am wondering if there is any way to tell what it might be. There are three bolts holding down the thermostat housing, it has two sending units coming from it (thermostat housing). It also had a power steering pulley on the crank, which, by the way, does not allow the fan to rotate without major damage to it and to the radiator. Beyond these identifiers, is there any way to tell what I might have? Thanks, Leonard

I need some info on the return spring that mounts on the clutch slave cylinder. Not sure which cars came with this, but the early 240Zs did at least. I'm almost done gathering my parts to swap in a Type A 4 speed instead of the factory automatic. But I don't have that spring, nor do I see it available anywhere (catalogs or websites). Can anyone give me the dimensions and approximate tension rate on one so that I can look for an alternative?

Now that the car is at the frame shop to be pulled, I have a chance to fire off two quick questions. First, I have a 3 sheave pulley on the crank. The outer one looks to be separate from the inner 2. Since my car is manual steering, and the air injection system is removed, I want to remove the outermost ring. Is this possible, or is the harmonic balancer one unit? Do I have to find a 2 sheave balancer? Secondly, I am new to Datsun and my car is a theft recovery, so don't laugh at this but I just replaced the ignition switch and I need to know if one key operates all the locks eg. doors, hatch, glove compartment. Thanks. Ted.

I saw an eBay listing for a "solid" billet (metal) front differential mount. It would certainly eliminate movement, but I'm thinking it could be pretty harsh and might require precise alignment of the driveshaft. My guess is it might be OK for a dedicated track car, but not that great on the street. Just installed a new "stock" rubber front mount on mine. Not considering a switch, just curious what others think...

I found a guy locally who has a load of assorted parts left over from modifying his 280 to drag race. He has a 3.9 rear end but it has been welded to get positive traction. My question is can I take the gears out of that and install them in my 3.5 housing. The vendor says it can be done, but befor I comit to buying the diffs I though I would check here at the site to see if there is any insight. I am thinking the face of the ring gear can come off the plate and the 3.9 gear bolted directly in it's place (and of course the pinion would be changed out as well) . What do you think? Anyone done it?

...so i did a SCDA track day last tuesday. had a good time! three 30min sessions...didn't abuse the motor...just nice fast cruising really....ran the car between 3000 and 4000rpm hitting 5000 on occasion. car has 87,000 original miles, engine was finely tuned including valves, timing, oil, etc.... when i got home the motor had a little (very little) noise coming from the lower end, up front. drove the car last night, came home, idling in the garage...sounded like M1A1 tank. grumbly, noisy, loud grinding at the front/lower end. guess i'll be on the phone with Rebello et.al. tomorrow photos are engine before...Yay!! and after today...Uhg!!!! i'm going to go with an …

I was cleaning off my diff I received from the Z store, and noticed that it had NO markings on the bottom of the diff. My stock Diff has two numbers cast into the bottom. One is T25, the other is something else, I need to go back and look. The light was bad. The new diff does not have any stampings cast into it. Its just a curiosity, but I would hate it if my R180 is different from this R180. The gear ratio is about 3.5:1 ish. So thats correct for a 71 240Z 4spd car. If somebody has time, take a look at the bottom of your 240Z Diff and let me know if it has any stampings? I need a Z part interchange manual.

Hello All, My car is a 1974 260Z that has the original L26 engine with 4 speed tranny. I recently installed Triple Webers (DCOE40) and headers but can't get the car run well. I have gone through several main jets, chokes, and air jets sizes and am now at this setting: Main Jet - 120 Air corrector Jet - 180 Idle Jet - 50F9 Choke - 34 Emulsion Tube - F9 The carbs are synched, idling is good, the car runs well in low speed and low gear, lower rpm. I can run up to 80mph with the throttle half open but when I floor it, I hit that dead spot and the car sputters and bogs down. I installed a higher capacity ignition coil - Red MSD Blaster 2 to give more spark but the ca…
