Hello all, While cleaning the inside of my valve cover the other day I noticed some of the sealant that covers all the seams as well as the screws on the removable metal peice (oil splash guard correct term?) on the inside of the valve cover had began to fall off in about 1/8th" sized chunks. This can't be good. I cleaned all of the remaining material off and removed the metal peice to clean behind it while the cover was off. Does anyone out there have any idea what this selant may be; it does not seem to be rtv due to the fact that it was hard and crumbly. Would high temp. rtv work for this? Any info is greatly appreciated. Dan

The restoration show reports that the driveshaft yoke is contacting the swaybar and making nasty noises. Could the problem be related to the drive shaft alignment caused by a high ride height (Euro springs plus Bilsteins)? What is the purpose of the rear mounting damper plate? Is it needed? Thanks, Fixitman

Can anyone give me some advice/tips on upgrading my 4 speed tranny to a 5 speed. I suspect the 5 speed will be from a 77' or 78 280z, although not sure. Is this just a matter or removing the old tranny and putting the new one in? Some links to a walkthrough or any helpful information would be great. Thanks in advance!

I'm going to upgrade my L24 for some more HP and Torque. I don't want it turbo or supercharged just N/A Tuned. I'm putting down my ideas here, and like opinions of people here to..or maybe you have a better advice for me..! My idea: Lighten the std crankshaft. Lighten the std flywheel or buy a sport clutch. Stage III or IV Camshaft, with maybe adjustable camshaft pulley, so timing can be set better. Stronger rocker arms and springs. E30 Head flowing and lighten the valves to make more airflow space. Raised internal compression. MSD Ignition system.. ( Are there any that fit on Nissan L series engines? ) NGK or Denso spark plugs. 3 Weber or Mikuni 45 or 50 mm carbs. With u…

Any great ideas on polishing/cleaning up engine components? Have no problem with toothbrush and putting in the time, but trying to see what is the appropriate cleaner/polisher solution I should use. My valve cover and air filters are shiny, so want to clean up or refresh the rest of the engine. Tried checking archives on engine cleaning, polishing or shining with no luck. Any thoughts?

Just bought a 240z and drove it home (2000mi), rough around the edges, but I think it was a good deal. Until I get the service manuals I am kind of flying blind. I've loved these cars since high school, but have only experience with NA automobiles. Two questions, many more to follow, I'm sure. Oil pressure nearly zero at idle - tappet/cam follower noise goes away when over 1000 rpm. I see it has an external oil pump. What is a good high volume replacement? Where can one be found? Are Nissan dealers any good for parts? Second, the half shafts have 1/2 worn through the rear sway bar!!! I am not even sure if it is the right bar. It it mounted behind the rear diff. There seem…

I'm trying to install an inline fuel pressure gauge. This afternoon I cut the fuel line to insert the gauge fitting but could not get it to fit. My fuel line is 5/16" ID. The fitting is 3/8" OD. I've read that this should work, ie, that I should be able to force the 3/8" fitting into the slightly smaller fuel hose. However, if this is so, I've yet to figure out how. I've looked around online for a 5/16" fitting but couldn't find one anywhere (the fitting needs to have a 1/8 NPT port for the gauge). So my questions are: Should this work? Do I just need to apply more "elbow grease"? If the answer to the above is "no", is the best alternate solution to simply replace t…

Does someone have a diagram I can use to figure out how this stuff is supposed to work and how it is connected.? I have attached a picture form another car to illustrate. Thanks...

Not long ago, I was driving my 240 daily. Occasionally, while driving, the tach would drop to zero and instantly revieve - like the car was going to die but didn't. I thought this happened most often over a large bump. After a displaying the above symptom for a couple months, the car would begin to die while idling -- no sputtering just instantly off. At first, it would always restart. Now, I've had to pull it home twice and it basically will not stay running longer than five minutes and is hard to restart. It will start for a split second (sounding really strong) but again die out instantly. It must be an electrical issue but I'm not sure where to start and I'm ho…
