In some previous threads there was high talk of brass in distributor cap terminals being superior to/more durable than aluminum. In all the years I've owned my Z I've only been able to get the aluminum variety... Until last week! It seems that Carquest carries some excellent parts. http://www.carquest.com/ Everything I've bought from them for the Z has been top notch. Never bought from them until the gas crunch made me buy along my route to home. Glad I started. Here's a few things I've recently bought which are of better quality than Autozone or Advance... Dist cap / rotor (brass) Points (high quality) Not like mainstream crap stores sell Exhaust flange gasket (Li…

My "new"" 260Z has all the equipment for AC (not all attached, of course), but I have a few items that bother me with it. According to the previous owner, it had the AC compressor installed on the passenger side of the engine. He removed it to install a mechanical fuel pump it it. Where did the compressor originally mount to? I see mounting holes on the drivers side of the block, and a mounting plate attached to the passenger side inner fenderwell. In the passenger footwell there is a "glovebox" A/C unit. The type mounted in vehicles not equipped with A/C. I do not know much about A/C equipped Datsuns, could anybody tell me where the controls to turn it on are at, where …

Well, in pulling the 5 - speed out of my newly acquired wrecked Z, it slipped and I smashed up the metal end cap and rear seal pretty bad. How do I replace this? Do I need special tools?

I am putting a l28 back together and trying to get a good strong running engine. New pistons, bearings, bored 20 balanced, mild cam, headers, ect. The question is about putting the thinner 1mm head gasket on. Is it worth it for the slight bump in compression? I wanted to put f54 block pistons in but couldn't find them available anymore. Motorsport has a gasket and I have heard about one from Felpro. Any suggestions will help. Thanks.

Well.. after attemping to install this exhuast by my self, it was obvious that that Twice Pipes exhuast setup from MSA did not line up with the stock muffler mounts, did not fit snug into the body, and needed custom fabrication. I took my car to Meineke Muffler and they installed it for... ehh... $150 for 3 hours of work. They tried lots of combinations and twisting it, and everything they could to make the exhuast fit up tight and snug... but this POS setup from MSA hangs wayy to low, and actually touches my tireand is VERY close to the tire, and you can see that it has touched the tire and there is melted rubber on the pipe. Is there anything I can do about this?…

I have a feeling that this has been posted before, but I can't find the thread for the life of me. My Z has been running great, no problems at all. I drove it for about 4 hours straight just over this last weekend without any problems. Today, temperatures are hotter than they have been all summer (106 today) and when I went out to take the Z for a drive, she started up but sputtered a little bit. I got on the road and went driving, but the car still seemed to be hesitating. I pulled into a parking lot, got some food, and when I came back out, the car did not want to idle smoothly. I shut the car off, and when I turned the key back to the on position, the tach was sit…

I've posted a few times here and haven't really said thanks for all the help- I really appreciate it. Hopefull soon I'll get more involved but at the moment my 73 is still in pretty embarrasing shape. Well here's my question: The spark plugs in my 1,2, and 3 cylinders are black and in 4, 5, and 6 they're almost new looking. Since replacing the plugs I've only driven the car approx 50 miles so almost new looking plugs isn't surprising but given the different conditions I assume the carbs aren't tuned correctly. Would the black plugs indicate a rich condition? I've gone through the basics on the carbs. Cleaned them, set the mixture nuts to 2 1/2 turns, and balanced them by…

I followed the FSM for installing the distributor/oil pump shaft and it matches the position and picture in the manual. when i put the distributor in and put the rotor on it seems to be in between two spark plug wires. the engine is set at TDC and i just want to make sure that this is where the rotor is supposed to be pointed at TDC. also, should the #1 spark plug wire be the one on top of the rotor in this position or just below it? Thank you much.

The injectors I ordered from Ebay came today. They were shipped FAST, packaged with great care, vacuum packed and look just as it does in the photo. I havent gotten around to installing them yet but they look fantastic. Everything was included to swap them out, even solder for the connectors and an allen wrench for the holder screws. The only parts I dont like are the connectors, they are of the cheaper variety, I may order the quick release type from MSA. For the price, they appear to be the way to go, matched to 2% of each other and a computer printout included with the sale. Here is a link for anyone interested, $143.30 total with shipping (I had a 10% off Ebay coup…
