I have a '77 280Z that is running very rough and I need some advice from you guys. When I bought it last Sept it seemed to run fine. I changed the oil and filter and cleaned up the engine compartment a bit and noticed that it started running a little off after that. At that time I also put on a "cold air intake" in place of the stock air box and when I did that I pulled off the AFM and cleaned it up inside and out. At that time is when I noticed it seemed to be missing a bit. I also used some degreaser on the engine and cleaned it up and I thought maybe I got some on the fuel injection wires (they have some cracks in them). One day, it seemed to run ok, the next day it wa…

Ho ho... my L28 is at last in my 240Z, together with a nice 5 speed! The engine is running sort of OK as far as I can tell... I have no shaft yet so testing the engine with really unsupportive neighbor is difficult. It's smouth and not leaking. My question: is it mandatory to use the second dowel on a new timing chain kit with a fast road cam? I have read so and would appreciate if I could cut this corner :squareeye But I guess the 4° of timing are going to be missed power wise, no? My spec are: F54 Flat tops 1 mm skimed head 1 mm shims Fast road kent camshaft 280ZX dist 6/2/1 and 1/2 exhaust

I never expected to see this when I pulled it out. I knew I had a dead cylinder but I wouldn't have guessed it this bad. What could have caused this carnage? All the PO told me was "yeah, she misses a bit..." Ya think?! Anywho, luckily the cylinder isn't scored bad at all and I was planning on changing out rings and honing the cylinders anyway. You should have seen the nice surprise when I looked at the bottom of the oil pan! So any guessing as to possible reasons? Maybe there is something that I'm missing that might cause this to happen again. Thanks!

can this thing be mounted without the 'third pulley'. it seems as if it's been balanced (two drill holes on outside face). if it can, what's a good spacer to use so the bolt can seat properly. thanks

I keep reading adds for Z's that have a electric fuel pump and the stock mechanical fuel pump. In my experience this is a tad bit overkill. Why would you want both. If I was going to install an electric pump near the gas tank, I would simply remove the mechanical one and block it off. Anybody know of why you would want to have both?

Doing a little fishing here guys (sorry, no disrespect meant there Darby), but I was toying around with the idea of replacing the rings on my 72 L24. My neighbor claims that when I started her the other day he saw blue smoke. On subsequent starts I have had others watch and no such smoke has appeared. Long and short of it, if I'm going to go through the trouble of replacing the rings, I might as well upgrade the pistons. Soooo, I would like opinions on what to replace the stock ones with. Thanks in advance, happy Z'ing everyone!

I may be looking to purchase a 240Z with a questionable 3rd gear syncro. I would like to keep the car as original as possible, but if a replacement tranny is going to be much cheaper than repairing the stock unit, where would be a good place to look? Thanks for any opinions options..

OK, so I got a 83 280zx 137,000k on it this past weekend. it had been sitting since 1992, needed a fuel pump, anyway I changed all the fluids and drove it around 10 miles yesterday, everything was great. I start it up this afternoon, and sounds like it's knocking/ticking really loud. So I pulled off the valve cover and one of the rocker arms came out of that little slotted nipple on top valve spring, and the rocker arm was angled barely riding on top the little slotted thing, and the slotted thing was rotated 180 degrees. And another rocker arm the little slotted thing was missing(which I saw laying on the head) but the rocker was still in it's correct position. Any I id…

Alright guys, I've tried to search over and over again but maybe its just me or something is weird about the search function here. My Air Flow Meter boot has some cracks in it and I am thinking of replacing it with some rubber intake hose clamps. You guys think this is a good idea? I don't really want to go with the stock AFM boot b/c it doesn't look very smooth and probably will crack on me again. Also, I am sure this has been thought of before. Please chime in and please let me know if I am not search properly.

I have all the head bolts removed except the middle bolt on left side which broke off even with the top deck of the head. For the life of me, I can't get the head off. It's the original engine in my '78z. I've used a heavy rubber mallet and also tried to get a stiff putty blade in between the block and gasket but no go. The head will not budge. Any suggestions? I'm afraid to smack the head too hard with the mallet. What do I do short of taking it to the machine shop? Thanks, Brent

hi, i have a 260Z and am looking to turbo charge a L28 to put in it. A mate of mine has a complete setup off an L20turbo motor,, i mean intake manifold, T3 turbo , turbo manifold, down pipe, injectors, AFM all L20 turbo fitted up to a loom and computer from a 280ZX NA. He has never run it but i think it will all work. I want to turbo a l28 motor - is this setup from the L20 turbo exactly the same as that of the L28 turbo? because it definately looks it, - or are injectors and AFM and intake manifold size (internally) smaller? I know it will bolt up easily enough but i do want about 160 -170 rear wheel kws without changing turbo size, and maybe without interco…
