Is LSD worth it? I am thinking that I might just get a R180 instead of a R200. You can get the same gear ratios on a R180 to an R200 and from what I hear, save 60lbs~70lbs from an R200. They are also a ton cheaper. I can see the advantages of having a LSD, but will it make THAT much of a difference compared to the extra cost and added weight?

Where the heck do I find these? Also, where can I find some dimensions of the valves and intake/exhaust ports on the L28 and L24? I have heard that you can drop L28 Valves into an L24 with a 0.010" bore but I haven't been able to find information on ANYTHING or even find the original source that which I read this information from. I can't find the valve dimensions or port dimensions for the L24 vs L28, or even find the 280z valves to purchase! Actually, I did find some exhaust valves for the 280z over at autozone, but I think that they were charging $18 for just 1 valve. I have the E31 head btw.

A little bit of background… Some time ago I noticed that I was loosing coolant. At first, it wasn’t much, but the amount continued to increase, yet I couldn’t find the source of the leak. One day, as I was driving to school, I heard a pop! but assumed that I had hit an empty can or some such. Knowing that I had been loosing fluid, I checked the reservoir once I had parked. What I found was that my reservoir had popped open and belched fluid all over the place. Once the radiator was cool enough, I opened it and found that enough fluid had been evacuated to allow me to see the top row of the radiator. I filled it up and drove home to see if the situation would happ…

I am about to replace my water pump (1972 240Z L24). I have a new GMB pump that I picked up somewhere several years ago. This one has the pressed steel impeller, not the cast iron like the stock unit. I recall reading reviews on these pumps a while back, but can find no trace of information when I do a archive search. I seem to recall that the comments were not too flattering, but can't verify that. I don't want to put a sub-standard part in if I can avoid it up front. Any comments or suggestions? Thanks

I'm putting the oil pan & timing cover back on today on my stock L24. I've read Humble's book as well as these & other forums and I am a little confused. I have the Nissan oil pan gasket as well as the Nissan timing cover gaskets, still in their Nissan packs. On the oil pan I plan on using a thin line of the Permatex 2 on the oil pan side of the gasket & applying the cork gasket directly to the block. Regarding the torquing, I can't find the most proper pattern in which to and how much torque to apply when tightening the bolts. I was planning on going opposite sides with my hands until I get all of the bolts in. From what I've read, the oil pan bolts …

from time to time cylinder six stops firing. usually i pull the plugs and clean them off or replace them. i am aware that the carbs need to be overhauled and what not, but i don't think that is my problem. however, one day i pulled the boot off of the plug and the cylinder fired then cut out. i put the boot back on and the cylinder fired then stopped. so i was thinking the plug wire was bad so i tried a different one, and the same thing happened. so i pulled the plug and replaced it. and it was fine for three days then it happened again. so i've been driving around with the plug wire half way off. and it been fine. it seems extremely odd. i'm wondering if th…

I'm about to buy tune-up parts for my '77 and noticed quite a cost difference between MSA and Courtesy Nissan for the distributor cap: MSA charges $6.95, Courtesy $28.84 (with our discount). Anyone have any experience with either?

Anyone got an easy way to move out the rear seal when there's a slight groove from the old seal on the rear crank journal? I was thinking about cutting a round shim out of good gasket material to shim her out a couple thousands! Guy

I am going to make a twin turbo for my 240Z. I have considered all options for upgrading my engine/tranny and have rejected them. The reason is I feel that if the 2.4 liter engine is taken out, it is no longer a 240Z. I'm just ol' school. I fully understand this route will cost extra money. I'm not worried about that. PLEASE ADVISE. Did you consider Nitrous Oxide? it is pretty much the only cheep way to be fast occasionally, and retain all of the characteristics of the car(when the switch is off). Will

I needed to replace my front right steel brake line. It starts at the distribution block and follows the firewall down under the frame to the rubber brake line. After some trial and error I apparently got something right, cause I'm still alive. So I'll pass on a little info. First, I bought some 3/16 x 25ft steel lines and a 37 degree flaring tool , tube bender and cutter from Summit Racing. I made two mistakes: 1) the steel tubing kept cracking while flaring 2) the 37 degree flare didn't hold the pressure. So i bought some 3/16 x 20ft Stainless Steel lines and a double 45 degree flaring tool from Summit. They cost more but not much. That solved my problem. the SS l…

Hey guys, took the car around the driveway today and I noticed a clunking sound coming from the rear of the car. When I would be moving forward then switching to reverse it seemed to happen the most, or when I would sorta make the car buck by pushing and letting off the gas. Any idea what this could be? Its sorta hard to explain, but maybe someone else has the same thing going on? I suppose it could be some slack in the drivetrain but im not to convinced with that cause i just had the rear wheels off and was spinning the axles. What should I look at to try and fix this problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Elliot.
