On my 05/72 (with stock carbs and emissions stuff) , I removed the hose from the AB valve at the balance tube, and out fell a little circular metal piece that resembles a very thick washer with a very small hole in the center..... I never recall seeing one of these things before (but it's been decades since I have done this, too). I reassembled things as they were, then searched my factory parts catalog to find out what it is. I had no luck finding any description of it in the catalog, and could find no archived threads in the forum that discuss this. I'm wondering if this is supposed to be there? Do I need it? What does it do? etc? Can anyone shed any light on this…

I'm getting a grinding, metallic noise coming from the left rear wheel of my 70 240Z. It starts out like a metallic clonk and then shrieking sound. My Haynes manual says this is the sound you will hear as a roller bearing starts to disentegrate... It has something to do with load, as I only hear it staring off from a standing start in 1st and slightly shifting into second, then it goes away. I don't hear it at all at speed or accelerating while moving. It's definately not the rear brakes. I think it's either the U-joint in the half shaft or the left rear axle bearing. So, any suggestions? Anyway to tell if it's the half shaft joint or the axle bearing? Wouldn't the axle b…

My daily driver is a 05/72 240Z. My "to be sold" one is a 03/71. The oil pans are different in that the drain plugs are in different positions. My '72 (and later ones that I have had/worked on) all have the drain on the aft of the pan sump. The '71 has it on the right (passenger) side. Other "early" 240Zs I have tinkered with have the same thing. I have garnered from the archives here that there was some kind of a corrective change in design and manufacture due to some design deficiency. Can anyone tell me what the deficiency was or why this change was made? Thanks!

Hi I have a set of original part with the ckoke and throttle knobs, also had the gas pedal with the little clip on it, WHAT IS MISSING is the bracket and the throtlle cable I guess it was cuted. I would like to mount it on my 1971 240z, but more information is needed. Can anyone give some exact information about this bracket, and the hand throtlle cable, like measures, where it is fix. I already had some pictures that shows me very clear where it goes, but no measures, so if anyone has it, please tell me something. Thank You Filipe Azevedo

I have been looking for a way to filter the coolant to remove the stuff that is moving aroung the cooling system. I have found 3 different companys that make coolant filters TEFBA, Golan and Gano. These go in the upper radiator hose. Here is a link to the TEFBA installed. http://www.midnightdsigns.com/Mustang/Tefba%20Filter.html I ran across this interesting tip. After a new engine rebuild or a head/intake reassembly, find yourself an old nylon stocking. If you don't happen to have one in your closet, get one from your wife, girlfriend, granny, etc. Drape the stocking over the upper water neck of the radiator and install the radiator hose like you normally would. Cut …

Hi, thanks for your attention... I'm new to this forum and to Z cars, I don't know more about mechanics than how engines work so my questions may sound silly for some of you, experienced users.:stupid: I finally got my shell, it's a 73 260z I believe and it's half my dream come true as I have this sitting in AZ border where I hope to have it running again and drive it home to Mexico. I know there is an engine longblock in the car but it's stuck and there is no coolling system... At this point I'm looking for an engine swap for good used one but I wouldn't know what to look for to make it easier and not too expensive. What nissan engine would fit? would I need to get t…

I have a very slow and small coolant leak that come from under the engine on the intake manifold side when the car is parked in the garage after a couple of days. The freeze plugs are dry. Could it come from the intake manifold hoses? I cannot see any of them leaking but I tighten up the hoses that seem to deliver coolant to the manifold. They were not loose but needed some turns of the screwdriver.

I have an E31 head that I'd like to have reworked - bigger valves, porting and rebuild. It came out of a parts car I acquired recently. I'm in Phoenix - anybody know of somebody local that has experience with Z heads? I don't want to just take it to a machine shop unless I know they are Z guys. Thank you in advance...

I'm sorting out the problems on the 74 260Z I bought last month. Here is one that I need some more help in coming up with a definitive diagnosis. This car has a stock 4 speed and (I assume) a stock differential with stock rear end gears. There are no outward signs that either have ever been replaced. On accelerating through the gears, if I shift from 3rd to 4th around 50 to 55, I get a strong vibration, almost like the car is going to shake apart. If I shift early, say around 40 mph, and accelerate smoothly, the vibration does not appear until I let off the gas some. I could also get the vibration to appear at 35 mph when I let off the gas to prepare to turn. I have looke…
