Has anyone installed Total Seal Gapless Rings in their L series Z and if so, what's your opinion on this ring? Also, did you have any problems with valve guide and valve seal induction or PCV induction as a result of the better sealing? How do you like them?

Well, this weekend I am going to start diving into the engine bay. I got a bad head gasket water leak that I need to get fixed. While I have the head off I am going to go a head and get some other things done. I was going to take the head to the shop to get it cleaned and inspected and while it was there I was wanting to get the valves ported. I read somewhere that you can port the valves 0.010 over and drop in 280z valves for some better air/exhuast flow. This is true correct and is it as simple as that? Then I was going to get a Stage II cam thrown in there as well. Now, would the original rockers, lobs, and springs work just fine with the Stage II cam and 280z valv…

I'm having my motor pulled Friday or Monday at our fab shop at work as the car is going to paint soon. I was talking with the owner of the fab shop and advised I'd like to have the head re-done for unleaded gas and we of course got into the top end vs bottom end rebuild. He said we could re-ring and bearing the motor while we have it out and send the head out for a valve job. He's rebuilt many engines, but never seen the inside of L24. Is this a fairly straight forward job to re-ring and put in new bearings in the stock motor (providing we're still within spec and don't need a bore)? Is there anything specific we need to be on alert for or anything else we should do …

Yo YO YO, I went and saw Dean Nakutsu over at Nakatsu's Garage and he's having me bring my '77 280Z 4 speed over Feburary 9th for a Engine Rebuild. He said he did his own Z but that was 13 years ago. He's not sure how long to or where to get the all parts just yet or how much they would cost. So seeing an oppertunity to at least save some money from being overcharged on parts like the first guy I went to, (anyone remember the $400 fuel pump ?), I said,"I can get my own parts myself if thats not a problem and it might save on time waiting for them to come in." He replied, "yeah that'd be all right", although he can get the items needed still just the sa…

I am about to swap (at last) my auto bow for a 5 speed. I collected all the parts (I thought) until I found out about that pilot bushing! Does someone know the size of it, I need to find one one similar around here, but I figure having the size would be easier than carrying the tranny with me :stupid:

Ok, Car was running well a few months ago. 1981 280zx N/A (n42 head) EFI Current problem. 10-20% throttle engine runs fine. When throttle is half way the car chuggs and strugles, when its pressed to the floor it takes off and runs fine up to 3500 - 4000rpm, Once it gets to about 4k it struggles to get any higher. Engine idle is good usually around 800-1000rpm (althought i have seen it idle high at 1200rpm) All injectors & electrical connectors have been checked and are fine Injector seals, rubbers plasitc caps have all been replaced. Fuel Filter is clean Fuel system has been cleaned Rebuilt distributor new spark plugs & leads My mechanic seems to think it may have…

This morning when I went out to my car to go to work, it started fine, and everything was working well. I got onto the freeway and made my way 25 miles to where i work. When I was getting ready to get off of the freeway, i down-shifted to 3rd gear. I noticed that the stick was very notchy. Down shifted again, and realized that the clutch was disengaging really low. Is this a simple adjustment? Or is my clutch beginning to fail? Thanks Jordan

I've done a quick search and haven't found what I'm looking for. What I am looking for is a spec sheet on the L24 (preferebly 1973 if there were any changes), that will show all stock specs, compression ratio, firing order, jorunal sizes, bore, stroke, valve sizes, etc, basically a complete spec sheet of the entire engine. Wouldn't hurt if there were the same things for the other L series engines either. So does such a thing exist for these engines? Thanks

Hello, all. I have a pretty simple question. What is the difference between the L28 and L28E engine and which do I have? The VIN of my 78 280z is HLS30467776. I have a set of gaskets and seals that fit the 1978-1980 L28E engine. IF it turns out I have an L28 engine, will these gaskets and seals fit mine also? Thank you.
