I have a Datsun transmission on the shelf that came as a spare with a race car I purchased last year. It's supposedly an actual Datsun comp 5-speed, and I'd like some help in verifying firstly that it really is a comp trans, and if so, which gearset it has. The tooth count on the mainshaft gears (from the clutch end of the bellhousing) are: 21T, 26T, 28T and 33T. The countershaft assembly (machined as one piece if that's significant) gears are: 32T, 28T, 20T and 15T I couldn't locate a serial number anywhere on the case. I can post some pics if that will help. –Thanks

I'm considering an engine upgrade. 1) Can get a rebuilt long block L28 from Datsun Parts on e-bay for about $2500, or 2) have Rebello Racing do a basic 2.8L bore & stroke job on my current engine for about $3500 Performance is about the same both ways. One benefit with Rebello is I keep my matching engine / chassis #'s. Anyone have experience with Datsun Parts long blocks? How big a deal is keeping my matching engine / chasis numbers?

I just got in my replacement steel lines for the brakes, gas and clutch. After searching every source I could come up with, I had no success except at Classic Tube. Thinking I could bend them myself, I attempted to replicate some of the BMC to brake switch tubes as a test case. I spent several hours trying (and subsequently failing) to accurately bend to my satisfaction the short lengths available from NAPA for those lines. I tried sanding, priming and painting my old lines (Eastwoods CAD paint system), but they look very fake, and don't deal with the core issue--inner corrosion. Plus, the flares and nuts were rusted and would look pretty poor against a nice shiny e…

Oil Filter

I regret that I've been negligent in changing my oil. It's been about 2 years but I've probably put less than 500 miles on the car in that time. However, I know it's bad to go so long between changes and to request forgiveness from the car I decided to swing by the Nissan dealer and pick up a genuine filter to take to my mechanic. I would change it myself but disposing of the old oil is as much hassle as just getting someone else to change it. In any case, when I went into the parts department the parts guy had to look up the part number in a book as the online inventory didn't go back that far. Once he got the number (15208-W1106) he was able to quickly find the filt…

When I rebuilt the distributor on my 280Z, I noticed that the vacuum advance didn't move to easily when you put suction to it. It moved very slowly and required a lot of suction to get it to move. Is that correct? I expect it to move more easily, to match engine revving for times when you need more power instantly. thxZ

K & N filter 1 2

I just purchased and installed a direct replacement K & N for my girl. I didn't realy bite on the hype about the additional horsepower thing, but I was impressed by it's claim for better air flow and life time service. I had to get a new filter anyway so $60 later... I didn't think about it much initially, but I'm starting to think I do see a difference in the way she pulls. (I don't work for K & N by the way) maybe a little smoother and I might be loosing my marbles but I think the exhaust note sounds a little better as well. :stupid: Anyone else got one? See a difference?

I have installed all new ultra light autometer guages and need to use the senders from the new guages. Im having a hard time with the thread sizes in the block and at the temp thermo location. Water temp looks like a pipe thread. I have the conversion adapters from Autometer but they are not the correct thread size. Has anyone used these guages and if so how did you get the senders to work? I could tap to make them fit but that is the last thing I want to do.

Does anyone know the bore spacing on an F54 or N42 block (center of cylinder to center of cylinder)? I assume all the l24/l26/l28 blocks have the same spacing, is this correct?

I have noticed that TheZStore has 6 stages. I never looked into a performance camshaft to help get more out of my L24. Stage II does look the best for what I want. Though what I am looking for is what are the differences from the stock to Stage II cam? Does it increase HP, and generally how much? Or does it just basically shift and/or strengthen the power band? Man I need a high paying job. :hurt:

I just bought a 77 208z that came with a spare motor and trans from a 81 280z. I was planning on rebuilding one of the motors for scca/ autox and was wondering what are the different engine codes and what are the specs on the motors? Thanks!

Before I get into a trial and error experiment in an attempt to stop the gear oil leak coming from my tranny reverse switch, I was wondering if anyone has had (and solved) this problem (using X as a sealant?). Thanks in advance....
