Ok im in the market for a 240z or 280z car shell. i want to rebuild it. engine, body,interior everything. i just re-built a Nissan 300zx NA, and im pretty proud of it. now i want a datsun. i love the Z cars. anyways, im trying to get at this...... i want to build an engine... Turbo....possibly twin turbo...i want to use the L28 engine. i want to have about 350,400,450, or 500 rwhp. i want lots.....yes i know. it sounds crazy. i have to prove that a Datsun 240/280Z turbo can beat a damn Z32 tt. oh yeah im gonna do it. so basically i am looking for help/advice from the people here who own these cars, and can work these cars. its gonna be like a restore project...but ya kno…

on my way to work on xmas eve the car started making a whining noise right in the drivetrain. after first thinking it was a bearing in the tranny, I discovered oil on the exhaust by the diff and a soggy pumpkin. right after work i limped her over to ZWhizz to have the diff gasket changed (since that's what i thought it was). anyway, long story short, they found that it WASN'T the gasket, but the diff was shooting oil out of the breather. I searched the archives and found that people were experiencing similar symptoms with a clogged breather. any other ideas?

how much should the oil pressure be on an 82 280zx? my dad got me one for christmas. we completeley gutted out the interior and replaced it. its in great condition, but it seems as tho the oil pressure is a little low on it. oh and the mount for the rear differential is missing, so every time I shift or give it some gas it thumps the bottom of the car. I'm thinking about removing the catylac converter and running a straight pipe, would this be a good move? my dads friend at a mechanic shop said it would add power and allow better air flow. let me know wat you guys think

Hey all, When I start the car up, and sit in neutral, I have a very slight grinding sound (like a skateboard on concrete). As I drive the sound intensifies (not relative to speed). If I disengage the clutch then the sound goes back to how it is while idling. I'm thinking it's the throwout bearing. Sound like the right symptoms? Is there anything else that this sounds like? Hello everyone i just got my 240z flew to denver to pick it up was told it was running rich played with carbs got it reasonable running clutch goes out on way home fun limping it up hills through neb and iowa having to stop every half hour to let plates cool. So change plugs, cap, rotor runs better no more really bad fumes plus added auto trans fluid to carbs was told good weight for them i think i put to much in but later for that, so i get it back from shop with new clutch let it warm up and go on a little cruiserunnning ok then starts to bog in high end in 1st and second clears up then 15 minutes later i cant get it past 35- 40 miles per hourin 3rd 4th just bogs aroun…

Did some searching but can't seem to find any specifics. Is there an FAQ, archived thread, website etc that lists all the L-series heads and the specs on each of them? I'm looking for stuff like chamber cc, valve size, chamber design, port sizes and design, etc. The 240Z I bought was supposed to have an L28 bottom end and the original 240Z head, but after looking at it and searching on here, I found it has a N47 head, which seems to be a later model 280 or Maxima head?

I'm sure this has been beat to death. I've done many searches already. I had set my timing to 10BTDC, with the dwell around 36. The car was running pretty darn well. At this point, I've put in the new Ztherapy carbs. I now have a bit of a cough. I had reset the dwell to a little higher degrees. I can't really get to the higher end of the spectrum. I had to drop the point gap to .017 just to get to 37 degrees of dwell. My new reman dizzy has a number that doesn't list in the Haynes manual. I'm going to reset the timing to 7BTDC and then readjust the carbs one more time. Other than that, I don't know what to do. I guess I could just keep trying different timings…

Hey guys I was thinking about building a 3.1 stroker motor, if not a 2.4 bad arse motor for my 71, and i was looking into heads and i don't have a clue what head is better the P79, E88, E31, etc. could someone who knows about heads spoon feed me the differences. Thanks

hey there. i have a 5/70 240 with the stock L6. it is manually choked, mechanical fule pump, a real pain to start in the winter especially. i am thinking about options to make this less of a pain in the arse to start. i am not necessarily looking to dump thousands and thousands, maybe 2k-3k if need be. i am also not a z expert, so if any of my questions sound stupid, sorry. i was thinking: install an electric fuel pump, upgrade the coil and ignition and dizzy to hei and get my carbs tuned. ooooooor, just do an engine swap. if the swap, what can i put in there? i heard some mention of a L28 being a good match for a 70 240? thanks. happy toolin'
