My engine combination is ~N42 Block ~N47 Head ~Japan N47 Intake Manifold ~33306A Exhaust Manifold on a Fuel Injected 1977 280Z 4 speed OK, Some of you may know I made mention of my #6 FI Port being clogged a.k.a. not getting gas. Well today I decided, since I'm saving money for a clutch, to take off the back half of the fuel rail connecting the number 4, 5 and 6 FI Ports and see if I can can unclog #6 with Chem Tool which I think is called B-12 (Some sort of adhesive, PCV, carb cleaner) After taking off the rail I could see down into the 4, 5 and 6 ports and saw that number 6 had some blackish wool like stuff in it. Looking at #4 and 5 on the other hand I saw only …

Just brought my 5 spd to the shop (didn't want to mess up the car) to drop it off befor I brought the car in. The owner of the shop came out to take a look and tinkered with the shaft inside the bellhousing - he noted play and made a remark "in a modern tranny you wouldn't have this". I didn't think it was significant - maybe it is. To me it was barely perceptable - question: Is it normal to have some play? If so how much? Would it have been more noticable with no fluid in the tranny? Presently panicing.

I'm doing some valve/timing stuff and need to go get a socket for the crankshaft nut...can anyone verify, is this nut 22 mm in size? or something else? I used to have a huge set of sockets this size, until they got stolen a while back... And I assume the nut on the timing chain cam sprocket is relatively small, like 17-19mm, right? I found nothing on forum search; thanks everyone for reading/replying to my post! I appreciate it--Take care,

I was discussing cams this morning with my Z guru. I have a BRE 3/4 race cam (old terminology) and was discussing a brief hesitation on launch at below 2000 rpm. I was curious as to whether the cam could cause or contribute to it. Saying that he'd need to know the lift and duration of the cam to reply intelligently, I asked if he might know the equivalent in the new terminology, i.e. Stage I, Stage II, etc. He doesn't. Would any of you? BTW, I installed a Pertronix electronic ignition package and the hesitation almost disappeared. I think a slight timing adjustment would smooth that out pretty nicely. But I'd still like to know where the 3/4 race cam fits with today's te…

i decided to go out and pull the head off my other Z and have it checked before sinking any more money in the 260 head. i haven't cleaned it yet but it looks much, much better. now here's the part where i need some input from the rest of you. for one thing, the cam has orange paint on it. this may be nothing but i believe this engine may have been rebuilt. the other reason i think it may have been rebuilt is i noticed the pistons have a two valve relief in them. i don't remember the other 240 having that and the 260 pistons certainly don't. the only mark i found on a piston was an 'H'. also, the cylinders look as though they have at least been honed if not bored…

a guy here has a 5 speed from an 87 300 listed on craigslist. i'd like to swap in a 5 for my 4 speed. how close is this tranny bolt pattern-wise and dimensions? he also admitted that "chuncks" were coming out (unknown if it's a bearing or synchro) so it will certainly need rebuilding. how expensive/cheap are these to rebuild?

i have a few pics of my engine with new plugs and plug wires, cap and rotor, and also installed a new oil sending unit. the K & N filters were a have to, as i didn't get all of the parts with my original filter box. i also have two very rough videos with sound to let you hear how nice the engine is after a good friend helped with tuning the carbs. we still have to install driver's side mirror, front and rear bumpers, and fix the rear latch on the back. everything else (paint and body work) will have to wait. but at least i can finally drive it after owning it, for the last two years. the second video is my friend that helped with the car, a very good mechanic tha…

I just finished replacing the clutch in my 81 720 pick-up, everything was working fine until the other day. I put the truck in the garage, and then went to move it out, and the clutch will not disengage. I bled the cylinder and it seems to move the withdrawal leaver the distance it should while the pedal is pressed. The gears shift fine when the engine is off. I do not know where to begin to look without having to pull the transmission out. I have a feeling it has to do with the withdrawal leaver as it is not moving the releasing bearing enough distance.

Hey all, I need some help identifying this differential. My stock r180 has gone out, and I'm looking for a suitable r180 replacement. I stumbled across a 73 240Z and a 79 280zx auto that had what looked like an r180 (which I believe the car came with) but I noticed that it had snap in stub axles, which threw me off. My stock r180 has bolt in half shaft stub axles instead. I didn't pull it, because I wanted to be sure that I got a r180 instead of an r200. The pictures are of the 73 240Z's differential. I'm hoping I identified it right as an r180, because I found the 79 zx auto, which would come with the 3.54 gearset. I've got my fingers crossed! I have a feeling t…

I have a 76 280z and I'm thinking about turboing it. Are there any good turbo kits that anyone knows of? Or would it be a good idea to take the turbo system of out a 280zx and just mount that up into my l28? My intended purpose for this is basically an autocrosser and my summer car to drive 'spiritedly.'
