I am getting closer and closer to actually driving my 280z 2+2. Just got it running last week. I bled the clutch and it should be ready to go. Had my brother push in the clutch for me while I was underneath the car and the slave cylinder goes out all the way. The car shifts fine through all the gears when not running, but when running can't seem to get it into any gear with the clutch pedal all the way. What is going on? What do I do?

A friend just bought a 73 240Z. It has no return fuel line. It is blocked off (the hard line has been removed). I have never seen this before. Is this considered normal anywhere in the world? The PO said that it has always driven fine. The car came from back east. Once it got into New Mexico it started running like cr@p. The PO also said that he uses a 9 volt battery to jump the electric fuel pump to prime the line. This doesn't make sense to me either. Although I can understand not running the e-pump continuously with no place for the fuel to return. I want to help get this guys Z up and running properly but in its current state nothing makes sense. Any comments, suggest…

Hey y'all, I haven't yet tried to install this yet but my replacement diff mount is different from the one I removed. I am replacing the differential right now and if this won't work I may have to reuse the old one which is FUBAR. Has anyone else had this issue before? Nate

i recently changed the fluid in the trans (5spd out of a 78) in a 240z with redline 75-90. i used roughly over 2 quarts. i took the car for a drive and for the first time ever i grinded a 3rd to 2nd shift.... no big deal, but then it happend 3 more times. either by engine breaking or for acceleration out of a corner. i have never grinded a single gear in the car ever. (i do not know what type of fluid was in the trans, but i t did seem thinner.) now this may be just a strange conincidence, but something doesnt seem right. So, is this something?, or just completely ironic? Thanks

Okay so I've finally rebuilt my engine to my 280z and it actually runs. The only problem is the PO had the vacuum lines so jerry-rigged that I have no idea what goes to where. Most of them were not connected in the first place when I got the car. I have searched the Forums found the HVAC diagram and I have the FSM and it really doesn't seem to help too much. Does anyone have a better picture?

At least I think so. My 1972 293,000 mile Z has a sad rear end. For starters it clunks. Okay Okay, this is most likely the mount... I have one, I just need to install it. But here is the real problem. It whines. And makes other clunking noises. Standing still, let of the clutch CLUNK (Diff mount?), Moving forward now it starts to whine, gets louder and changes pitch w/ speed. Let off the gas completely CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK THUNK CLUNK. Now up until about an hour ago if I gave it a little gas to maintain speed it would just whine, but now it started makeing lighter clunks then too. HELP! I NEED the car on Sept. 7th for an event at Watkins Glen, not racing just leis…

Quick question. I did a search, but did not find anything on cleaning up the exterior of the tranny case. My 5 speed that I will put in my 240Z is pretty cruddy looking, on the outside anyway - lots of old grease, dirt and grime. But I keep seeing all these nice shiny transmissions for sale on eBay and I'd like mine to look presentable, especially since the motor is all rebuilt and looks nice and clean. What's their secret? Take it somewhere and have someone else do it? I've used a cans-worth of Gunk on it and a wire brush and it looks better, but still has a long ways to go before it will be suitable to be wed to the engine.

I have a "little" problem. Engine's out of the car...due to an ahem, "miscalculation" on my part, actually make that major brain fart, I over-adjusted the cam timing on my motor & caused piston crown/valve contact on start-up. I put a substitute L28 in my motor's place in meantime, but now I'm faced with varying possibilities on how to go about fixing my cylinder head. It's an E-31 head, a good one, so I don't want to toss it. Only the exhaust valves were contacted. The bottom end looks fine...pistons aren't damaged, just slightly nicked/scuffed where the valve edges hit. Everything I know tells me to replace all the exhaust valves (I do have a spare set of valves). I…

Does anyone recognize this oilpan or know what the sensor is for? Is this aftermarket or an add-on? My stock 4/73 pan doesn't have this sensor. Just curious... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300145508512
