Hi, I want to replace the half shaft U-joints on my 240Z. The parts are available from MSA and black Dragon - but not the needle bearings and c-clips. Does anyone of you have an idea where to get them? My old ones are very rusty and I think they will be damaged when pressed out. Next thing: do the driveshaft u-joints also request needle bearings? Thanks for your help. Juergen

Hi All Anyone else have problems downshifting to third. Upshifting, no problem, but trying to take the Z out of third to second reguires alot of effort. Tranny fluid levels perfect. Both 3rd and 5th were replaced when the Z was restored. Centerforce 2 dual friction clutch requires complete pressure so when I shift all gears my foot is to the floor with the clutch. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. Vicky

I have been doing the search and I am still not sure. I ma working on member Jim Derks car and haven't driven but 1 mile. Hell, it just started for the first time in 10 years. Anyway, there is a whirling clutchtype noise coming when car is idling in neutral and stops as soon as the clutch pedal is depressed. I have read of 2 possibilities. First the throw out bearing, the car has 85k original and probably has original clutch--just replace and be done with it. I have also read it can be the input shaft. Is there a way to check this when I have the tranny out. I know very little about trannies and would like to diagnose this so i know whether to replace his tranny at the sa…

I was looking to see if a disabled clutch (the slave cylinder hose is busted) would still let me start the car? I can try to start it either in or out of gear if needed but wanted to make sure I was not doing more harm than good until the new hose comes in. Thanks SuDZ

Hi folks, I've got a 77 280Z that ran very well up until last winter, turns out the fuel pump (for whatever reason) isn't pumping fuel to the engine. Power is getting to the pump but it's not working. I bought a used pump off eBay and I'm going to put it on any day now. I saw an add for a Z-car on eBay while I was cruising through and read the description of a similar problem with a fuel pump also in a 77 Z-car. The guy said that the car would run if you "cheat the pump" :cross-eye What the heck is the guy talking about, and is it a temporary or permanent fix??? Thanks..............

Thanks to those who helped with my previous posts. Now a new problem. I'm sorting out my vacuum lines and what the previous owner did to them. I understand the basic diagram under the hood of the car, but there are several other vacuum ports that are not addressed in any manuals I have or on the sticker under the hood. Could someone please send or post a few good pictures of a properly setup intake manifold including ALL of the vacuum ports and where their lines go, and if there are any T's or splits anywhere in the lines? Reading about it is one thing, but seeing it is another. I have a 1983 280zx, california model, and all i can find is vacuum charts for a 1982. And wh…

I finally ripped off the flat top Hitachis, and I want to make sure I am handing the emissions stuff right. First, the egr solenoid valve has a bend metal hose that connected to the rear carburetor. What should I do with this on the round tops? Second, I have the flapper air cleaner, and it has one less large port and one less small port. The large port came from the flat top carburetor, so no worries there. But, the 4 small hoses are: from the throttle opener control, from the flame trap, from the balance tube to the "idle compensator" in the air cleaner, and a mystery hose that hooks to a device that Tees into the PCV manifold port and a metal tube to somewhere (mayb…

Hope someone can help me with this. I am cleaning up the balance tube and welding close the unneccessary vacuum ports. I should only need 2, correct? One for the pcv and one for the vacuum booster. I have seen the some where the booster line came off the end of tube, I wonder how they came up with the hose for that or was it just trial and error to find one? If anyone can think of any other vacuum requirements please chime in.
