Hopefully someone here knows about ZX's too. My father inlaw gave my daughter his 82 ZX and it hadn't been started in awhile. Turn's out it's been "quite" a while and the gas was awful. We put some new gas in with the old and started it by pouring a little gas into the intake. It ran so bad that we drained the tank, purged the fuel system replaced the plugs, cap, rotor, and fuel filter and tried again. Even with new gas in the tank and fuel rail it won't start on it's own, and if you get it to run it runs rough. I'm guessing that I should check the cold start valve, but even if that has a problem I can fix it doesn't explain why it runs so bad when it's primed and start…

I've got a U-joint going out in one of my halfshafts. I've got two new(to me) halfshafts ready to go in but after jacking the car up and trying like the devil to just break torque on one of the nuts, I gave up. Any suggestions? Seems like these things were not meant to come out simply on their own, you'd have to take apart the rear suspension to get them out. I'd like it to be a simple "4 bolts here, 4 bolts there, now for the other side" job, but it looks like an all day project at this point. Suggestions, anyone? Can I do this on my own with a couple of open end wrenches, or am I screwed?

Question reagarding a 78 280Z. When I really floor it upon acceleartion from a dead stop I have seen white smoke in the wake of my Z hauling arse. It's kind of rude but funny in a way as I have witnessed the guy behind me lost in a cloud of smoke. The engine has a rebiult head, but has 295K on the motor.. It runs fine, but I am concerned about the smokescreen issue. Help!

I don't have a choke cable on my 240 with three webers. I was looking for some information on what cable to use and the best way to hook it up. Got it started for the first time the other day, the carbs were a bit gummed up, pulled out the main and secondary jets, they were green. Don't think the accelerator pump circuts are working so I'll have to pull those apart and see what's going on with them. One more question on the fuel system - the gas line flows through all the carbs and out the third one back to the tank I think. Does it have to flow like this or can it end on the last carb? Looking at setups on some websites that sell them it looks like they don't have a tw…

im getting ready to install my new R200 in my 73 240, and im not sure which way to position the mount. i know as soon as i raise the diff up there id find out, but i'd i rather only have to do it once. in some photos if seen side "B" facing the front of the car on 240s with the r180, and in some phots ive seen side "A" face the front of the car on the ZX with the R200. i havent seen any photos of the mount on the R200 in a 240. it would make sense to have side A face the front because of the scalloped-out area for clearance to the mating flanges, but im not sure. so if someone could help out, id appreciate it. thanks todd

Hello All, I have a '77 280z and am looking for a vacuum hose schematic. I have downloaded the 77 shop manual and also the electronic fuel injection guide for the 280z but neither one has a schematic. For some reason that escapes me the previous owner had disconnected various hoses and I have no idea where they go. Thanks. Tom

Ok I have just purchased a 1977 280z 4 speed The car was sitting for 4 years but fired right up with a new battery. I have spent the last two weekends putting in new plugs, wires, battery, drained fuel tank, breaks, drained and refilled transmission and oil change. I took the car on a quick trip around the neighborhood to see how it ran with these fixes and it ran surprising well. I parked the car in the garage and let it idle for about 5 mins. I popped the hood and as soon as I opened the hood (engine still idling) it stalled. Ok I figured need to adjust something so I attempted to fire it back up and now it wont turn over ????????? :disappoin I am very confused as it w…

I have heard many people give conflicting opinions about using using synthetic vs "fossil" oil in Z cars. Is it true that seals will leak on an L24, or any engine for that matter, if synthetic oil has never been used? I am debating about using synthetic or not in my 73 240Z. What would be the best weight to use in both synthetic and conventional oil. Also, I heard that you can use synthetic motor oil in the diff as well. Any thoughts? Brad

I was wondering if can be use a fuel cell with carbs (Im going to get them from ztherapy, SU´s). I saw the same part in a z, so fitment is not an issue, what Im not sure, if it´s going to work with carbs. http://www.ybenormal.net/servlet/the-304/201-dsh-116-dsh-01-JAZ-Products-16/Detail

Hi all, I'm still wondering how to stop my carbs (and fuel) from heating too much. My exhaust headers run too close to my carb set-up, so I need to find some headers that bend down more sharply (and don't run out underneath my carbs). More background: mine are TRIPLE carbs on a TWM manifold, and my non-standard exhaust manifold is a 6:3:1 set-up (from memory??). I've heard about "Pacemaker" headers, "Clifford Research" headers, "MSA"... but I'm just not sure whether these are all roughly the same shape or radically different? Any advice for a punter like me?? :stupid:

Well, in the 70's the rating was 151/149 for the L24 found in the 240z car. Now with the SAE standards always changing, what would this number be using todays standards?

Just FYI - DETROIT - Most major automakers agree: The adage that you should change your car‚s oil every 3,000 miles is outdated, & even 5,000 miles may be too often. FoMoCo became the latest manufacturer to extend its oil life guidelines, making public that it is raising the recommended oil change interval from 5,000 miles to 7,500 on its newly redesigned '07 models & all subsequent redesigned or new models. The company, like many other manufacturers, said Tuesday that higher oil quality standards & new engine designs were responsible for the change, which affects vehicles driven under normal conditions. „The oils have advanced a lot since the days when 3…
