Hi I cant find a thread to answer this so I apologize if this is in a thread some where. I am swapping my L26 for a L28 while I rebuild the L26. The engine is from a 75 I am using my carbs (roundtops) instead of the EFI. What I am wondering is will the N42 with dished pistons potentially produce more power then the L26? I want to modify one of the engines but I am not sure if I should keep the original L26 stock and do the L28 or visa/versa. Iam going to run the L28 the way it is for a while and was just wondering what to expect from the set up I will use. Thanks Chris

I have researched, called z places and asked questions on forums but there is still some fog with my 77 coupe 4 speed to 81 zx 5 speed conversion. My clutch isnt engaging all the way so my trans is slipping. This should be straight forward since I have a 77 280z coupe and got the trans from a 81zx coupe-non turbo. According to every one my flywheel should be the same for 77 and 81 280s (225mm). According to everyone my clutch should be the same for 77 and 81 280z. (that includes clutch disk, pressure plate and bearings). If all these parts are interchangeable between 280z and 280zx then why is the collar for a type b 4speed larger.(I assume type B is the 4speed that came …

My r180 differential is dying, it has a bad whining sound, and I need to replace it. So, I've been lurking around the internet and reading up on some articles about the r180 to r200 swap, most notably the r200 lsd swap from an 4/87-89 300zx (non-SS). I see that it's a pretty straightforward swap, but I still feel like I'm forgetting something. So far, I understand that you need: 1. R200 differential 2. Mustache bar from a 280Z with R200 3. Stub shafts from 280Z R200 (also called companion flanges?) 4. Half shafts from 280Z with R200 5. Pinion Flange from 280Z R200 6. My Z started making a really weird noise all of the sudden on Friday, and it sounds like it is coming from the differential. It started as a loud clunking noise that wasn't consistent, but would happen upon acceleration, cruising, and would eventually turn into a muffled whine. I tried to get some audio of the clunking and whining, but I couldn't get it to clunk at all. I know it's not the normal differential mount clunk, the clunking sounds much worse. I just replaced the 4 speed trans on my 77 280z with the trans from an 81 zx. The clutch seems to be slipping pretty bad. We replaced the clutch with a 77 clutch kit. I assumed this trans switch was a simple switch out but apparently its not. Do I need to change my slave for a zx slave? Do I use a bearing/collar from a zx? I have adjusted the pedal in, out and to spec without a change in slippage. What is the correct combo of parts to do this correctly. By the way the clutch was just a regular replacement from the auto store, nothing special.

Can anyone give some advise on which head gasket to use for an e31 head? MSA has them as NLA as well as Nissan. Does it require a different gasket from the other 240zs? If so, where can I find one? I have a Fel-Pro gasket will it work? Thanks for your help- Cliff

hello all! i've read where a few people have had interference with the MSA header on the stock SU manifold. but all of them that i have seen this issue on (madkaw and marty rogan) were the 6-2-1 header; whereas i have the 6-1 header. does the intake interfere on the 6-1 header as well? also, if i do decide to grind down the coolant passageways, will i have to weld anything? or is it just grinding? one more question, how are you guys mounting your return springs if you aren't running the heat shield? thanks guys, Jason

Had the good fortune to sneak the car out of the garage for a late winter drive this past weekend. At startup, with choke pulled and a low idle, engaging reverse to back out of the driveway was no problem. After a nice long drive and returning to the garage, I overshot my spot a bit. When I selected reverse to back up I got a grinding sound from the tranny. The rpm's were too high, about 1300. Will lowering rpm's relieve the grinding, or is there more to it than that? I plan on putting in a point-less distributer does this require the peice that connects the distributer to the oil pump to be replaced too, if so am I able to replace this peice later without pulling off the timing cover? & when I put the timing chain cover on how do I get the seal over the crank shaft gear?

I have a 72 with the head stamped FF SP and a 73 with the head stamped FF 015 MCT. Does anyone know what this number means? These letters/numbers are on a machined pad on the valve cover ridge just next to the thermostat.
