the car has been down on compression and i've just got it at the mechanics now and he said that the bore is worn a bit and it'll need to be bored. this means oversized pistons, but i have no idea what i need. i'ts currently an l28 F54 block, 2 mm shaved p90 head, some rods (prob standard, dont know), and flat top pistons. i race the car (read: spends most its time at 5000-6500 rpm) so i need some pistons that are going to be able to take this abuse, but i and my mechanic are not sure what to get. anyone got any good ideas? i am sure someone has done this before but a search proved fairly useless. I am in autralia so if i can get some stuff locally that would be good, but …

Well, I tried all the suggestions I received this winter on how to get the head loose on my '71 L24, except for the cherry picker suggestion. It was like it was super glued on. What finally worked was a suggestion from a shop down the road. Back the #1 cylinder off from TDC a bit and stuff as much as possible small diameter nylon rope in the #1 and #6 cylinders, then using a breaker bar with socket on the crank pulley and turn back to top dead center. It took a lot of muscle power, but it finally popped loose. Of course now I get to work on getting the crank pulley bolt loose so I can pull the pulley and front cover. Hopefully it won't be too bad. One other thing, …

I am currently working on a project 71Z with a very strong L24 motor. The car is owned by a friend. We are building a L28 for the car which means the running motor will be sold. The reason I am putting out here vice in the classified is because if you are a So-Cal local you can drive the car and get a feel for the engine. The car also has a real nice header and 3' inch exhaust that will be sold as well. If interested drop me a PM and we can make arrangements. I am not sure when the engine will be pulled, but once it is it will be placed in the classified adds.

SO I got a replacement Speed ocable off Ebay and I managed to fish it into the back of the speedo with my foot on the roof and my head up against the pedals . Tricky tricky and it only slips into the bacvk of the spedo one way Yikes , went or a little drive .. Nothing I took the end off the gearbox and Spun it with a drill and voila it works.. So any body have any ideas about what is wrong obviously Nothing Wrong with speedo Nothing wrong with cable SO ..Gearbox,Speedo drive gears ?I've read a lot about various coloured drive gears but.. i am unsure if these are in the gearbox itself. I feel there is something missing where the cable screws in as well there is a flat spo…

I was poking around below the ignition coil today and saw the pictured hose/valve/regulator and cant figure out what the heck it is. It connects to metal tubing that runs up from under the car but seems to terminate in a loop. I cant help but want to take it apart and clean it up but before I do so I should know what it is.... Anyone know?

Now I know already how a lot of people feel about stuff from CSK/Kragen/Checker (I personally don't mind them), but I'd just like to double check. Is this the right type of U-joint for the propeller shaft? http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=GMB&MfrPartNumber=2200027&PartType=17&PTSet=A It says it's for a 3 pc. driveshaft... which could maybe indicate that it's a fit for the half-shafts coming out of the diff... but there's also a separate part listing from this manufacturer for the half-shaft U-joints. I may also add/drain fluid from the tranny and diff. at this time too (might as well, since I'll be under the car), 75w for the differential…

I've been using this stuff called VersaChem Anti-Seize Thread Lubricant "Type 13" (whatever that means) on pretty much everything. Is that the stuff to use? I used to use KopperKoat but I haven't been able to find that in the last ten years. I loved KopperKoat. It held up even in marine environments. Seems like the versa chem is pretty much the same stuff.

Been doing some shopping around for head machine work, and I've found the prices are much higher than I had figured on for a simple stock E88 rebuild. I'm not looking for a performance-built head, just good quality work. I've got quotes of $600 to $900 for what I need to have done. Which is to have the head lightly surfaced, new guides installed, the t-stat housing opening welded and surfaced, a couple of new valves, maybe new springs and the normal valve grinding and lapping. No port work, pretty basic stuff. So here's the dilemma - MSA will sell me a rebuilt E88 for about $450 exchange. They guarantee that it will not have been milled too far, will have steel intake sea…

There is a rebuilt E31 on ebay that strikes my fancy for a couple reasons. A) I have a 1/71 build date car, that I BELEIVE would have come with the E-31,it currently has an E-88. I am leaking coolant at the head gasket to the outside of the block. My thought is since the gasket will need replacing, I could put an original head back on. I need input on a few things. First, there is much divergence of opinion on the net as to when the e-31's were phased out. Would my car have had one? (it is the original block in the car).I beleive Carl B knows the answer to this one. There seems to be the same variety of opinions on the nature of the E-88, in terms of the valve size…

First I know this topic has come up in the past. I just bought a 280z engine with an n42 head with 70k on it that i want to use until i build up my l26. What I want to make sure is will I be able to use my intake on the l28 so I can use the carbs (the ones on the l26 came from an early l24) from the l26? I read somewhere that the early efi fire all the time compared to the sequential firing in the later ones so I thought I might be better off transfering the SU carbs. Also I would need a fuel pump and Iam trying to keep cost to a minimum right now. Plus I really like the SU carbs. Anyone care to add and tell me what to do? Thanks Chris

I'm in the process of replacing the waterpump and I've heard that after you get the new pump on and fill the radiator, after the car runs for a bit you'll have to add more coolant - is this true? Basically - in the end, whats the capacity? Thanks -
