Hey all! Here is my issue. I've been working on my 73' 240Z lately and it's coming along nicely. I did a little carb work and got my choke working properly but now when I accelerate from low RPM's there is a hesitation before the car accelerates. If I'm moving along nicely and then press the accelerator it accelerates just fine. I added oil to the carbs (Automatic transmission fluid) because the piston in the carb was hard to lift even with my finger. Now the action is nice and smooth. I don't know if has anything to do with it but the rear carb (round top SU's) seems to slick a little after it falls all the way down. Could the needle be causing it to stick when it…

I have a 72 with an L28 w/ close ratio 5spd swap & I have a couple of issues. The 1st is 3rd gear, when I'm driving in 3rd I hear this noise that almost sounds like electrical crackling for the shifter area. Any ideas what this is? The 2nd problem is at least 80% of the time I get grinding or a crunch when I shift into reverse. I just replaced the clutch master & slave cylinders & I think I remember seeing some extended rod kit for the MC. Is that what's goin on here?

I have done the search but I am still up in the air as to which header to buy. I need to replace the rusted header on my '71 240Z as well. The car's motor is stock & running the SU's. I have asked several knowledgable Z people and I have been given several opinions. 1) Price no object 1 3/8" or 1 1/2" Stahl header (Pretty much universally the best but it is $775 plus shipping) 2) 1 5/8" Nissan Motorsport header either chromed or unplated (ceramic coating extra) The opinions vary on whether the chrome will last or rust. I am leaning towards getting an unplated one and ceramic coating it. 3) MSA ceramic coated header (I have one of their coated headers + their alumi…

I opened up my differential to find out the gear ratio and check the general condition of it. I haven't dismantled it yet. When I took the cover off, I was expecting more gear oil to come out than what did. I don't know offhand what the capacity should be. There is a varnish buildup that actually peels off. I am wondering if this a result of sitting idle for so many years, running it with a low oil level and overheating or something else? The pattern is looking good with minimal wear and there is no visable damage. Has anyone seen a film you can peel off in a differental before and if so was it from overheating? Should I just flush it out good? It's hard to see in the pic…

Well... I started my car one day and drove a few blocks when I noticed a mechanical, metal-on-metal sound coming from my engine compartment. I drove back to the house and listened to find where the sound was coming from. I turned off my car & removed the engine sump to take a look at the camshaft and look for any problems. What I found, was a rocker arm that wasn't clamped down to the little plate that sits on the top of the spring. That plate had dislodged itself and was sitting at the bottom of my camshaft. (Good thing I found it..) I'm going to take some pics in a few minutes. Waiting for the digital camera. Basically, I'm wondering what could be done...? =\ I k…

greetings fellows Zders, first post here I have this nice '73 240z in need of tranny work, so i started working on it yesterday. I'm now to the stage where the shift forks need to be removed, but to my surprise, these are welded to the fork rods and can't be removed without grinding the welds first !! There is no mention of these welds in the factory shop manual. The trany is a 4 speed type B So, my question is: Are they supposed to be welded ? Do i need to re-weld them during re-assembly, has anybody seen this before ?? :stupid:

Is it possible to install a short shifter kit, like MSA's, with the gearbox in place. Can you do it with the console removed?

My '72 has a '81 L28 and is running SU's. I am asumming it has the head from the Original L24 but I am not sure. Can I i.d. it without looking at the port shape(pulling the manifold)...is there a stamp or i.d. # on the exterior someplace? I have a pile of old service and purchase records and all i find is the recipt for the '81 280zx engine purchased in '97. I'm trying to do as much reserch on things before i start my restoration project and would love a little advise here so I know what I have. I'm not sure if the attached pic will help but here it is. I have been blown away at the knowlege some of you have! Thanks a ton! :classic:

Anyone know where I might be able to start looking other than MSA for a new clutch plate/flywheel for my 78' 280? I'd like to get better than stock.
