I have an Oil Temp guage to install on my 240Z. I have read on this forum that locating it in the Oil Pan is irrelevant, and that locating in the block gives you the working temperature reading. Exactly where in the block should I locate the sender, is their a pre-drilled and tapped hole I can just plug it into? Thanks in advance. ViparZ

I own a '73 240z and want to swap out the original engine for more power. I recently just bought a P90a F54 rebuilt engine and was wondering if this is a good set-up or not to run SU's on a '73 240z? I initially was going to by just an L28 N42 Long block but was told the P90A F54 was a better engine for the same price. I don't know if I got taken or not. Now that I have it, is it a better set-up than just rebuilding the original engine. I know the P90A F54 is off of an '83ZX and that the P90A had hydraulic lifters (I don't know what that means cause I don't know much about engines---how often do the lifters go bad and how hard are they to replace?) And I know the P…

Which is more cost effective? Should I rebuilt the motor or just drop another engine...like the 280z? Anyways, the car is in great shape with new paint...I will tried and upload picture monday. Most of the restoration is done...except for the engine? $1000 only... Thanks for help.

I don't know if its the way I am measuring, if I got the wrong rings sent to me or what! To start: F54 block / P90 head, standard dished pistons. The engine ran fine, no blow by or excessive oil consumption, just lower compression than I wanted. I am upgrading to Nissan Motorsports cast pistons, in stock bore. I had the block hot tanked and honed. I measure the bores at 3.386 inches, 86.01mm which is in spec according to the clymer manual, but when I slide a ring into the cylinder to check the end gap, it comes out to about 4mm instead of the .2 to .4mm it should be. I don't know what to do at this point. I thought the machine shop took too much material off when h…

I have located a couple of T5s, but i read somewhere that they have a different flywheel, and neither had the drive shaft, and I believe that I would need at least the front yoke. Any advice?

I just read thru some posts, couple recent ones were nice. I got to the point on a recent one where Carl Beck is stating dont keep the collars too close to each other and smacked myself! My problem is I think I actually put the wrong collar on my 4 spd. I put in a 280 motor and left all the clutch assembly intact, I hooked up 4spd tranny up to it and left the 5 spd for later use if wanted. I "thought" I changed over the collars correctly but Im thinking somehow in my mess of garage and delay in this particular project I may of mixed em up. Right now I have slight friction and can barely get any reaction to the wheels, this is with adjusting the slave cylinder out as …

I was wondering what motors with turbos or supercharger you can add to a 1977 280z, ive seen lots of differnt types of motors put in them, but alot of them you have to do lots of modifications to get them to fit right, are there any motors you can add that have lots of hp without having to do to much modifications.

Yes, 65. I put a teaspoon of oil in #3 (the compresson test results are from cylinder 6 to 1) and the compression only increased to 75. My car is not smoking at all and the oil looks fine. I ran almost completely out of coolant (another story) without knowing it. After filling the radiator back up with coolant, I drove 35 miles home and the coolant level did not drop at all. There are no other signs of a blown head gasket or cracked head. Any thoughts?

4 to 5 spd

I to am switching my 77 4 spd to a 5 spd. I got mine from a friend who got it from a wrecking yard. It was marked 81 to 83 ZX. I looked it over and appeared to be the same in length, width and bolt hole patterns as another 5 spd I have witch I know will bolt up to an L28. I took it to a transmiision shop to have it rebuilt ( I put a 5 spd in before this one that felt good on the bench but not in the car, no 5th with the car on the road ) and was told it would bolt up. The rebuild is going to include all new bearings and syncros. Does 450.00 sound fair.

I am changing the 4 spd in my 77 to a 5 spd. I am putting in a 5 spd that is marked from the wrecking yard " 81 to 83 ZX ". The rear end in my 77 is stock whatever that is. I know there are several types of rear ends. Should I change the rear end to be copatible with the transmission and how do I tell the diferrence between rear ends. I have several that I can choose from but don't know which is which.
