Cam Towers

When I removed my Cam Towers from my old head there were guides that half sat in the head and half in the towers, ensuring that it all lined up straight. Is this their actual purpose, I noticed that a couple of them were missing? If I installed my head without all of them, would I be doing my Z a great injustice? If so, where do I get them from. Thanks in advance

L24 vs. L28

I have a '73 240z with the original engine and just bought a L28 long block to put in it to get more HP. Is there really that much horsepower in an L28 and is it work it to put it in and take out the original. It runs fine except that it has the crappy Hitachi carbs that need to be swapped out for SU's from Z Therapy. Am picking up the engine this weekend but wondering if it's worth it for the extra HP. I'm also planning on switching it to a 280z 5-speed. Any comments?

I have a 77 280z with fuel injection. What is the difference between the Z injectors and the ZX or the ZXT injectors, I'm not sure of the last 2 but they came off a W24 manifold. Would it be to my advantage or disadvantage to try them on my 77 with an L28 motor. Just guessing I would assume they run richer to keep up with the turbo but am wondering if that would be to much for my motor. Would appreciate any knowledge or experiance anyone might have with this. Thanks.

I'm currently swapping my '73 240z L24 for a 280z L28 N42 and putting in a new 5-speed tranny. I've been getting great help from you guys and I have another question. Is there any advantage over a 280z 5-speed and a 280zx non-turbo 5-speed Tranny? And if I go with a 280zx tranny, I should get the R200 differential? I don't know much about cars but from what I've read is it has something to do with the gear ratios? Also, I live in Valencia, CA. about 30 miles north of L.A.---do any of you know of any good Z shops and also where I can find parts? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what's going on so I thought I'd come to the experts. My car has a hard time starting (especially when it's cold) and when I choke up the engine it seems to make no difference. Should it be noticable? While I'm trying to start it or even once I get the car up and going moving the choke cable does nothing. I've traced it back to the carbs and everything seems to be moving ok so the cables aren't broken. Thanks for your help!

I hate to ask these dumb questions but I'm a newbie and don't know alot about car mechanics. I own a '73 240z with the original transmission and want to put in a 5-speed transmission from a 280zx. I've read that these will work in a 240z, correct? I spoke to a guy who supplies them and he said that they will have to probably shorten the drive line to make it fit----is that true and what is the drive line? Is it an easy swap or is this a big problem to do? I beg for your guidance and suggestions. I should also say that I'm putting in a L28 engine from a 280z. I don't know if that makes a difference or not as far as the drive line. As far as I know the L28 will fit …

I need some help identifying a type of rear end. I was fortunate last week to get a ’73 240Z given to me (wrecked). I took the rear end out for a spare for my ’72. The ’73 differential has spline half shafts into the differential, all the 240Z rear ends I’ve seen have the flanged half shafts on both ends. All maintenance books I have show flanged. Anyone know what I’ve got?

Thats right, no power over 4000 rpms. Just installed Pertronix points and new "Flame thrower" coil. Starts just fine, runs well upto 4000 rpms. Then no more power. I think i might have wired the coil/ballast wrong. Got any ideas? Got a pic of the coil/ballast so i can compare my wiring to yours? What do i do with that?

Hey, I've read the previous posts and the manuals and I'm a bit lost in determining what this problem is. First here are the facts: (1970 240Z all stock) 1. The clutch let's out at the very top of the pedal. 2. There is no slippage 3. Shifting can be slightly difficult, particularly grinding going into reverse sometimes. 4. When I set it up by the book, that is, took out all the free play on the arm (with the spring off) and then backed off the set nut by a turn and a half, the car would not go into gear. 5. I've reset it a number of times, but still same problem so I eventually started turning out the nut until I could shift easily and still have no slippage. 6. System …

I am going to put a P90 on my L28. It has 1mm over flat top pistons and a mild Snyder cam. How much should I shave off the head and do I need to raise the cam bearing blocks to account for the head being shaved.
