So I got my new head for my 280Z removed the head just like my manual said with paying close attention to pushing that wedge into the timing chain so as to not lose the tention. Heres my problem now, I can't get the cam sproket back onto the cam because the chain isn't long enough. I was wondering if there is anyway to adjust the tention without having to rip out the engine and remove a bunch of stuff. I really need to understand how the Tentioner works.

I am looking for information on the cold air intakes I see on Ebay. The store name is Intakepower Air Intake. They have a Buy-It Now price of $7.15. They claim it increases HP and milage. Anybody out there used one.

to pertronix? i talked to one of their reps at SEMA last week and apparently it's not unusual for the tach to not work correctly after installing the ignitor. he said there were several steps to check in order to get it working. but i figured i can't be the only guy here who's installed pertronix, so i'm probably not the only guy here that has had tach problems. if you've had this problem and corrected it, could you please let me know what you had to do to fix it? TIA

I want to replace my old boot. I do not know which part of the linkage to take apart to free the old boot. Is it the end at the accelerator pedal or the swivel mechanism at theh firewall in the engine compartment? How are the ball swivel joints disengaged from the ball on the swivel?

I am thinking of installing an aftermarket ignition system in my 76 280Z and possibly a new coil. The two options I know of are the Crane XR700 and XR3000. Does anyone have aftermarket ignition with the L28 and any other suggestions, comments, or experiences?

Alrighty... I went ahead and purchased the parts needed for the solid lifter conversion. I purchased the time-sert inserts.. and a spare P90 and I used the solid lifters. I soon found out.. after starting the engine up... that it sounded like a freakn diesal.. and yes everything was adjusted properly to spec.. hot and cold. Well here is one thing NO one ever mentioned about the solid lifter conversion. The hydraulic camshaft has a different shaped cam lobe.. and is designed to smoothly ramp up on the hydraulic lifters. When you use the solid lifters on the hydraulic camshaft.. the hydraulic camshaft "slaps" the rocker arm.. which creates noise and wearing of th…

Hi ya'll: Prior to pulling the head on my motor due to a pinched head gasket from when I replaced the front cover due to a broken water pump bolt, where this all started, a compression test was taken. 175 across the board except for #5 which was 110 dry, 125 wet. Do I need to yank the motor and pull the #5 piston? Or do I just do a head job? The shop is telling me they need to pull the motor and check the rings on #5. 25,000 original miles on the motor. What to do? Thanks for the advice.

I have an old head (early head) that I'm resurrecting which is missing the cam oiler/spray bar. Since I can't find one to pull in a junkyard I'm going to buy new. My question is what hardware besides the small bolts is involved? Are there any O-rings or rubber seals at the interface or does the oiler simply bolt metal to metal? Still digging for my manual but even if I could find it I doubt this info would be in there. Thanks for any help given. Jim

My 1972 240z has a 1971 L24 and a type "A" transmission. One of the previous owners appears to have completed an automatic to manual transmission swap at some point in its life. I am in the process of replacing the type "A" transmission with a 260z 4-speed. I wanted to keep the 4-speed but liked the gear ratios of the 260z transmission. The 260z transmission came with the clutch fork and throwout bearing. I dropped the type "A" transmission yesterday and pulled the fork and bearing off. For starters, I am glad I am doing the swap. The bearing is on its last legs (you can spin the bearing freely - no lubricant whatsoever) as is the transmission (the input shaft is har…

I have a 78 280z and have taken the compression on all cylinders. All cylinders are 148 - 150 Lbs except the number 3 which is 138 Lbs. Is 1150 Lbs normal and is my range from 138 to 150 OK?
