Anyone have any specific info on freeze plugs in regards to material: (I.E. - Brass vs Steel) Seems to me the steel plugs would be the better choice? Any specific reason why the brass plugs would be offered as well? I assume there might/must be a specific reason for this? Just kind of curious as I've seen both listed in the part catalogs...etc...etc, listed on eBay...etc...etc. webdawg1

I'm now hearing a rattle that is coming from the shifter on my manual shift on a '77 280z. This is at a higher RPM and if you put your hand on the shifter knob the noise will almost totally go away....what's causing this and what do I need to do to fix it? thx

OK , I have searched so far, and no luck. I , although be it, 9 years ago, changed the oil in my 72 Z, and after only 3 to 5 miles of driving, get a quart or so of gasoline in the motor oil..... i suspect a bad fuel pump?? i got a new one, but the car isn’t running yet, i need to get some other parts, and try it out. I was just wondering if any one else can give some feedback on this gassy mess. ps. the car at that time was new to me, so I don’t know if i did something to cause this, or if the fuel pump just cra**ed out. being the fuel pump is stuck in the side of the motor and all. thanks .

Hi everyone, new to the forum but had the 240z since '85 and its just undergone a resoration at www.autoactive.co.uk - mine's the car on the trailer - that was 2 years ago. My question.... the cylinder head gasket had broken down after many years of storage it only gave a minor reading on a block tester but on inspection was quite a bit worse than we thought. The head has been surface skimmed and is about to go back on. I noticed some minor surface pitting on the back edge of one of the cam lobes so I'm thinking of fitting a reprofiled cam and towers I bought a while ago (this cam was reported to be a Spike Anderson spec cam but I have no way of knowing for sure). My ques…

I did a bit of searching, and never saw this spec. Does anyone know what the diameter of the factory stock 240Z exhaust pipes were?

For you Automatic Tranny drivers, what are your RPMs at 80 MPH? Mine is at 4000 and I am not sure if that is good. 80 MPH? You might ask; well I live in Southern California so 70-80 is the usual speed.....and "No" I don't plan on replacing the the Auto with a 5sp....if I want to play shifter games I can drive my G35 MT6 Coupe or my rough looking 78Z.

I have tore down the engine and head and found ARP Bolts on the head and mains. I have used ARP in the past on V-8 rebuilds and know the tork specs are different from stock on those. Does anyone know what I should tighten down the head bolts to? Stock or different? I know ARP bolts have a different stretch rating so I assume so. I have emailed ARP but no help yet. I hope to have her ready for the Zfest but time is not on my side. I am also trying to identify the clutch in it. No markings but it has a gold housing. It has very little wear on it so I am reusing it. I am rebuilding the engine becuase of low compression on 1 & 3. The cam shows very little wear also, I am …

My car is at 113k miles, and when I had it at the dealer for a tuneup ( plugs & timing only), the guy suggested a valve job. I had one done a couple years ago, after I got the car. How often do you think a vintage engine need a valve job? The owner's manual tells you a certain interval, but that's for a newer engine. an An older one with miles on it probably needs a little different treatment. There's a very slight ticking from the rocker box with the engine idling. thx

Hi, I have a 2.4 SOHC 73 datsun 240z. I purchased a Schnieder cam kit, it has the springs and lash pads etc. I am still saving money for the rocker arms! I have an e88 head and It has been ported, I just need to know how much i need to shave to bring the compression to 10 to 1. that is what the guy from Schnieder told me it should be at. I have no idea on the history of this head, so I need to know the correct stock thickness, and how much is needed to bring it to 10 to 1. The machinists don't have the specs on the datsun heads anymore, he told me to go online, I have been searching for some time and I thought that someone might now off the top of your head, ok stupid j…

Hi all, You may recall several months back that I almost sold my 240Z on Ebay. Fortunately, rational minds on this site set me straight and I saw the errors of my ways. Since then, I've had Rebello Racing rebuild my engine. I thought you might like seeing the Dyno results. Click here http://sclenden.users.sonic.net/240Z/Rebello 240z.xls Rebello has a package where they use the original block and head from your 240Z and bore and stroke it out to 2.8 Liters using a 280Z crank. This package is for the semi-purists crowd that what to retain number matching blocks but add a little more grunt to their engine. In addition, 280Z intake and exhaust valves are installed in…
