Okay , I've realized I have screwed up and now need some advice. I am putting my engine together-fresh rebuild and realized that I put the washers under the head bolts upside down:stupid: . Convex instead of concave down. Should I take the bolts out one by one and retorque as I go or should I remove and reinstall all and to proper sequence. Will this effect the gasket in anyway. This is a new gasket and the motor hasn't run yet. The timing chain is on and timed. You wonder what your thinking when you do this crap!

Well, I know that this engine runs on 87 octane. Would there be any advantage if I put in 89 or 93 octane? I am just wondering if the engine prefers to drink a higher octane fuel compared to 87 octane.

Want to see if any of you have changed the clutch in a Series I 240Z? If so, is this something you think the average person with pretty good mechanical knowledge can do at home? How high does the car have to be to be able to drop the transmission? Anything secrets to do this properly? Thanks for the help. Bob

I finally got my new diff ordered and I should be able to put it in next week. My question is this. Is there anything else under there that I am going to need to replace when I put this one in? Its just a stock replacement for me existing one, but is there anything that will require being replaced during this switch? I ask cuz I would like to get all this done in an afternoon if possible without having to make runs to the auto parts store/order things. I didn't find anything about this on here and the Haynes manual didn't say anything either.

Hey guys I'm putting in a new cam and to figure out my new lash pad height I took the difference between the base circle of my stock cam and of my new cam, this came to 2mm. I then added 2mm to all my lash pads and came up with the figures. The problem I'm having is that motorsport sells these in specific sizes which aren't identical to my calculated needs. My question is should I error on the larger size (ie. round up), or on the smaller size (ie. round down). Seems that the difference between the two will create a .15mm increase, or a .9-.11 mm decrease in height from the position the mechanic set it at which was at .30 mm of lash(cold). Thanks for the help

I recently picked up an R180 diff with 3.54 gears. I believe it came off a 78 280Z. The connections for the half shafts are not the typical 240Z flanges where the half shaft bolts on. These half shafts have a splined end that inserts into the diff. I think you then tighten up a nut on the half shaft to secure them. I was looking into replacing that connection with a 240Z side flange so that I could bolt on my existing half shafts, since they have new Spicer U-joints in them. Then I saw some CV joints on EBay. I was wondering if CV joints would mate right up to that connection? CV joints have a splined end too. Not sure if they have the same number of splines or …

Anybody using this Nismo header on their stock 240Z motor? Are you running a resonator? Which muffler? Do you stay 2" from the collector out? Performance Header: 14004-S3070 Designed for square ports with 1 1/2" primary tubing, the header is a 6 into 2 into 1 design with a 2" collector. It is painted and I figure I would have it jet coated before installation. My '71 240Z's header is rusted and needs replacing. Thanks!

Has anyone done the conversion from fuel inj to carb? I'm thinking of replacing the injected system for the 4 barrell Holley. If you have or can give any pointers ie(what sensors and wiring can be discarded) . the reason i'am doing this is that I am feed up of the electrical failures in the system and feel that the carb method will bring reliebility Please if you have done the swap' walk me through it . thanks :cheeky: the Limey

Manula I have says use the idle air set screw but I can't find anything remotely resembling the illustration. Also remember a post about using the AFM but can't seem to locate anything.

Will these fit in an S30? They are for an 84-85 200SX 4.11 ratio. Norm sell things really cheap sometimes 60-80% off. http://oem-surplus.com/nwp/picpages/38300-76S00.html

Hi all, I purchased a 1977 280Z two years ago, registered her, drove her, parked her............... She sat last winter with very little gas in the tank, and when I put a new battery in with some fresh gas, she refused to start. She spins real strong and will start momentarily with a shot of starting fluid but won't stay running. I have spark, I'm not getting fuel and I don't know why. The car ran really great previous to her slumber last winter. Any thoughts anyone ?????????? "Frustrated"

The injector wires on my 77 are unhooked and unmarked. How do I know which go where other than guessing.
