Hello, I had a u-joint go bad in the rear, so in the process of replacing all of them, I came across 2 ring & pinion sets (3.54 & 4.375) for an insanely cheap amount. (one was less than $10!) I finally just got everything back together last night, w/ the 4.375, and took it for a spin. What a difference jumping from my 260z's stock 3.38 made!!! Staying with the r180 over the r200 option also saved me a ton of $$$, since there are none to be found in a junkyard within a 400mile radius, and I'd have to do alot of buying/shipping. One question I do have is, when I had the car up on jack stands, it seemed that only one tire was spinning under load while the other kin…

So, I think I might finally dive in and do my engine rebuild. I'm going to utilize the numbers matching block and pistons, but use the crank and rods out of my spare engine. I am not sure if the engine I have in the car right now has the same bearing clearances as the stock block, so I was considering pulling the engine, taking the oil pan off, and comparing the rod and main bearings from the current engine against the numbers matching engine. Would there be a visible difference between oversize bearings and stock bearings? I've read in Wick Humble's book that he recommends using plastic gauge, but I have never used it. Anyone know how to use it and explain it to me? …

I've seen metal spark plug wire holders on many vintage cars, and since I've broken every holder I have at least once, I started thinking about making a set of aluminum ones. The old holders would be used for the pattern, and they would probably have to be bolted to the brackets on the valve cover. Maybe a dip into Plastikote to make it look a little like the plastic holders? thx

I need a vacuum advance unit for my 78 L28 dizzy. It's got anautomatic trans. What would work? I'm not looking for an exact match, just need to get the spark a little closer than what the mechanical advance gives. I was thinking of one from an L28 from 79-81 with any trans? thx

Do the 78 280Z's use the same differential as the 81-83 280ZX's? I'm not concerned about the gearing, just the type and if a differential from an 81-83 can be a direct swap into a 78 280Z.

I am in the midst of replacing the exhaust system on my 260 and was wondering how the piping from the differential mount rearward should be routed. Did the factory system route above or below the A-arm? I ask because the existing exhaust on the car was routed over the halfshaft to the muffler but most of the pictures I can find show it under the arm then up to the muffler. Thanks, Todd

I am finally pulling the engine out of my 280zx parts car and am getting ready to rebuild it. The block is an F-54, and I'm putting the N-47 head on it off of my '79 zx. As you may have read in my other threads, I,m converting to triple weber 40 dcoe's . When I buy the gaskets, should I buy a whole kit for a 240z, or do I have to buy a 280zx kit and buy a seperate intake manifold gasket for a carburated model. What brand would you recommend. Is there any other gaskets that will be needed. I think the MSA header came with its own exhaust manifold gasket, but I can't remember if it was for the intake and exhaust, or it was just the exhaust section. Thanks for the help.

I am looking at a su setup on ebay, item number 140016078700. I know this is a dumb question, but my engine is at work and I cant look to see if it is 2 bolt or a 3 bolt setup. My car is a 73. Will this 3 bolt setup work on my 73? Im not sure if the 73 used both the 2 bolt setup and the 3 bolt setup. If I knew they would work I would consider paying the 275 and buy them now. Any advice?? Thanks in advance.

What is the length of the 69-early 71 Driveshaft and the length of the late 71 up driveshaft? Is the automatic different? The measurement I need is center to center of the U-joints.

I have a '79 280zx, and 2 parts cars, an automatic '82, and a '79 5-speed with a newer engine in it. I was wondering how I can determine what rear end gear ratio these cars have, and how to tell if they are R-180, or R-200 diffs. Is there a certain difference between them that you can see? Can I tell by the color of the speedo gear on the tranny? Did certain years have certain ones? Any help would be appreciated. I tried to search but couldn't find much.

I'm probably asking a pretty simplistic question but being relatively new to the car restoration/modification thing I'll ask it anyway. I have a 73 240z and I have dropped an L28 from an 83 280zx into it. I have the 280zx exhaust downpipe attached to the exhaust manifold so I'm in good shape there and I know that my 240 exhaust won't bolt up directly to it. My question is basically what is the best way of completing the exhaust from the exhaust flange back. My 240z exhaust is anything but stock and kind of a rusty mess. I wouldn't mind getting one of those Monza systems but I imagine that the one for the 83 280zx (so that it bolts directly to the flange) won't fit the 240…
