When I start the engine, and then give it a pop or two, it sounds like the water pump is screeching? But then if I give it a minute to warm up it will stop screeching. Also, there's no screeching when you drive (at any RPM) and from a start as long as you don't nail the throttle. This is confusing. Ususally the water pump (Chevys only) starts sreeching, and gets worse with time. Any ideas on this? thx

I have been told that fuel injectors are color coded for fuel imput or lets say rich or lean. None of my books 75 service manual, Chiltons or Haynes say anything about this. I have just gotten 77 with a N47 head that has a mixture of green,white/ivory and black injectors. My 75 has a N42 head with white/ivory injectors. My 76 has a N42 head with black injectors. I have a set of white/ivory and black injectors. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should put in my 77 with the N47 head

Hey guys, I think I have an exhaust leak, and when I was checking it out, I saw this, which doesn't look too stock, but I'm not sure. Can anyone ID if this is a stock piece on the 260z exhaust, or if its some sort of exhaust leak fix? Thanks, Joe

On my 81 turbo there is a spring loaded check valve which diverts coolant back to pump suction when the heater is not needed and no flow thru the core. Manual climate control. On my 83 N/A with the fancy digital control this check valve is not there and it appears that coolant always flows through the heater core and there is some sort of flap in the dash which diverts air flow cause I am either hot or cold no in between (separate issue of course) On my 83 turbo with manual climate control there is not this check valve seems like the same setup as my 83 na. This car has a digital dash but manual climate unit (did someone substitute). Reason I ask is that the 83 turbo…

Considering getting a new exhaust manifold. This would officially be the biggest automotive job I have undertaken (have been slowly working my way up to it -- redid the ignition system last week, carbs next week). I could just go to a shop, but I would rather do the work myself. In order to have all the relevant info before making a call, can anyone tell me if I need to pull the engine to get the manifold off? It looks like I can get to it if I get the car off the ground, but it seems worth asking here =) Also, MSI is pretty much the only place i know to shop -- if anyone has any recommendations from either there or other shops, I'd be glad to hear them. I am looking…

Hey guys, i just put on my n42 head on my f54 block and im a lil worried that im not getting oil to the valvetrain. This happened to me before back in march when i installed this head. Since then i had the head checked out and repaired. Now i have installed one of the older type head gaskets 77-78... i didnt see any significant differences between this and the newer ones (F54 81-83). My head has both internal and external oiling, but when i started the car (without valvecover) i could not see oil flaring up like i would with my p79 head. To those who are running bother oiling systems, at idle are you getting any visible oil when running at idle?

Here's a good one, I jumped into my 4x4 that has the same 5sp as our zeds. Put it into reverse, backed out shifted to neutral but the car is still in reverse :tapemouth . The gear lever is in the center posistion and won't shift in any direction, clutch still works and the lever isn't broken. Any suggestions this side of taking a hammer to it.

Hey guys, I did something I've never done before today and I noticed something weird. I decided to drive my Z bare foot and I noticed that when I put the peddle to the floor my Z sort of sputtered and lost power at about 5k but if I pushed the peddle slower and not quite "to the floor" it would give me power up to 6.5k. I think with my bare feet I could get a better feel for where the peddle was at. I know that the nozzles are turned down enough to feed the engine (I tried to richen up the nozzles and that didn't help the problem). Since the problem seems to come on at "instant WOT" and not with a gradual WOT I guessing that it is a problem of not enough fuel pressur…

You lucky guys across the pond, seem to be able to pick up anything for your Z from a local Nissan dealer. In the UK 99% of dealers have never even heard of a 240Z, let alone supply parts for them. To get to the point, is there anyone in the US who can ship gearbox bits [synchro rings, gears etc] to the UK?

Howdy. So I took my '78 280z in cause I was having electrical problems that I just couldn't seem to shake (bad voltmeter gauge, of all things). The guy then calls me to say "the work is done, and did you know that 5th gear is gone?" "Yeah, I thought there was no 5th gear, that it was an option". "its a 5 gear trans, and 5th is gone, reverse is hard to get into" "Yeah, reverse has been finicky". So now I've gotta spend $900 to rebuild it. And probably replace the cluch as well. I knew that the trans needed some work, but I didn't know it was a 5 gear trans and not a 4 gear trans. So did all late 280z's come with a 5 gear trans? Cheers, James

Anyone care to share the appropriate pages from the ZX manual on how to reassemble the five speed? I did it by eyeball four years ago, and it was great. Then the 5th gear nut backed off. After tightening it back down, I couldn't get the car in gear (binding on the mainshaft). After loosening it a smidge, it won't stay in second on decel. After retightening it, it's binding on the mainshaft. I have omitted several tighten/loosen stages... but it wasn't right, no matter what I did. Eventually I gave up and put in a junk monkey motion 4spd. Well, it finally bit the dust, so I need to get my 5spd fixed before the next track day. I have all new synchros, bearings, et…
