Hello fellow znuts....I probably should know the answer to this question as I have owned my Z car for 35 years....but brain fade (age) is getting to me! I have traded my racing tranny for a 81 280zx tranny as I am putting the car back in "quiet and comfortable" mode. Which drive shaft will I need? (The one I had went with the transmission.) Also, any any thoughts on whether I should straighten out the rear end while I have everything apart would be greatly appreciated. (I'll need the later style mount and mushtash bar...right???) regards, Sam Livengood:)

Hey guys, I bought the 74 260z in November from a guy who had it on jackstands for 5 years. I rebuilt suspension and swapped to 71 SUs. Took it for a drive today and went to McDonalds about 2 miles. Once leaving, I noticed 2 noises I didn't notice before. 1) From the transmission tunnel a sort of constant wooooossshhhhhh noise. Could this be due to transmission fluid? Haven't really checked it out yet, might be a good idea to check it. 2) From the rear, maybe differential, a constant low whine I'd say describes it. Also, haven't check any fluids in that. Other than the fluid possibility, are there any other things to check out? Can hear a know, might be u joints, whe…

This is my first post to the forums. I have been looking around, researching a turbo conversion for my 78 Black Pearl. It seems the majority of people go with an 83 ZX turbo, from a parts car, for their conversion. But then, if you want real power, items start to get replaced, such as the turbo itself, then the ECU, etc. I anticipate that I will end up with an aftermarket turbo, and programmable ECU (I forget the popular one), does it make more sense just to buy an exhaust manifold, and the standard sensors, etc, then buy the aftermarket turbo and ECU? I just think it is more logical, rather than buying a whole donor car, and using 5 to 10 pieces of it. As a side questi…

Hello, Im new to this forum. I have had my 240z for a little over a year. The clutch went out and it sat for about 4-6 mo, until recently that i got it fixed. I have a mostly all original vehicle. its a 1971 red color. I want to make this car quicker. From what i read in some places, a header and exhaust wont do much. What types of mods could i do to make my car have quite a bit more hp that it does now. It is currently stock. Thanks in advance. I want to restore to a certain point, but i want to make it more of a fun car without having to swap the original engine. Could it be turboed? Would cams affect it at all? What would be the cheapest mods for some hp gains?

I am going to have a friends make some new bushings for my modified shift lever. Does any one have the measurements of stock shifter bushings. I am getting a set of brass ones made up for me by a friend. I would prefer that they be measured by a dial indicator due to the importance of them fitting just right. I have the door pin trick in my shifter now bt these would be free to me and anyone who could help.

Should I be able to measure some resistance on the water temp sensor when I hook up a mutimeter directly to the sensor? I'm trying to diagnose whether the wires are bad or if the sensor is bad. I replaced the sensor about 3 years ago but I am experiencing a hot start problem. I followed the circuit tests from the EFI bible and did not get the desired results when testing the water temp sensor. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Andre

Hi everyone, I'm looking at getting a set of 260z 2+2 stub axles for my 240z. I'm wondering if the 2 seater and 4 seater stub axles are the same? I imagine the only difference is that the 2+2's had longer driveshafts but the same stub axles. In the US I understand you guys swap to 280z stub axles which are the same as 260z stub axles here in Australia as far as I'm aware. If anyone has anymore details let me know. Reason for 260z stub axles is that I believe they are stronger and these are easier to adapt to a CV joint upgrade, something I will be doing in the future with an R200 LSD.

Interesting, seemingly intermittent challenge I'm having with the Z. I can already tell that I'm burning a bit of oil when the car is completely cold, so my natural assumption is valve seals. However, I've noticed a new quirk. If I drive the car and get it warmed up to normal operating temp. (i.e 180/190 degrees Fahrenheit) then let it sit for a period of time (i.e. going to work, park the car for 4 hours), when I get back in and start it up I can smell the distinct aroma of gasoline. This is accompanied by what looks like gray smoke coming out the back until the car begins to reach 110/120 degrees. After this time the smell of gasoline is gone, as is the gray exhaust. …
