If you are going to rebore your engine, I advise you go with a 1mm bore. These are impossible to find. I have ordered two sets; one the machine shop ordered from Liberty, the other from Victoria British, almost ordered another one from somewhere in Washington. To make a long story short all of these places claim to have the flat top piston, but all of the pistons they stock are dished. That's right even the one's that are supposed to be for the '75-'79 280ZX are dished. So, after about $150 of shipping and handling (I'm estimating since I haven't sent them back yet and assuming there is no restocking fee) I still have no pistons. If someone knows where I can get 86.5m…

Hello, does anybody use a cat converter on a SU powered 240/260Z, or has experience ? I will improve my exhaust fumes, and it will be easy, to reach the emisions test once a year. Thanks Rainer

Anyone on here using it? What does it sound like? I bought the full Al exhaust MSA offers and it comes with that muffler. The guy at MSA said the Super Turbo was quieter than the regular Turbo muffler and overall it wasn't loud. Is that true? I don't want the car to be loud, just a little more throaty than stock. I'd hate for it to sound like a bumbllebee or something.

I am changing my 79 280zx fuel injection to a triple weber 40 dcoe carb system. My setup will be as follows: F-54 block, N-47 head, stock flattop pistons, triple weber 40 dcoe 151 series carbs, motorsport header, 3"custom exhaust system, magnaflow muffler,ACT street clutch, extreme pressure plate,Fidanza aluminum flywheel. I want to upgrade the cam, and valvetrain, and I wondered if anyone has any suggestions on what brand, and size would be the best for my setup. I would like to keep a fairly smooth idle if possible, and keep a fairly broad powerband, since my car will be a street machine, mostly on weekends. Any advice would be appreciated. THANKS

At the risk of asking a stupid question... My '70 Z stopped running while idling. 1) I disconnected the line after the fuel pump and turned it over, no gas spurted out. 2) I removed the filter and blew through it to make sure it isn’t clogged and then replaced the filter. 3) I repeated step "1" and still no gas spurted out. Most likely the pump is bad? Right? Thanks.

Hey, stopped down at a junkyard on the way home and found a 89 and 92 300zx both with their differentials... 5 bolt output shafts... also found some late 80s and early 90s 240sx's with differentials also. This is whats needed for V8 swap and LSD right? Any info on this would help a ton! Thanks

I found an equal-length 6-1 header for a square port yesterday. Which companies make these & how do I tell the difference?

I've just recently done an engine rebuild on my 280z and put in a lower milage 5 speed instead of the one i pulled during the rebuild. Once i started driving around, the tranny started popping out of 2nd gear-but only when i let off the gas while in 2nd or downshift to 2nd gear. I am using Redline MT-90 transmission fluid, but i'm not sure if that has anything to do with the problem. Help please!!!

I have a 73 automatic with SUs. The transmission is out of a 77 from what I can see written on the side with the ol junkyard yellow paint pen. The car works fine until it gets warmed up. After driving for a bit, there is a lound click and then a loud sound (sounds like a pop off valve stuck open) coming out from the transmission or engine. There is no real loss of horsepower, I usual drive at anywhere from 65to75MPH and 5000rpms. Does anyone think they know what I am talking about? I have a really good Z mechanic BUT he only has experience with 4 and 5 speed models and detests my auto. He did an auto trans service for me and found nothing of note in the old oil. F…

I switch the cam (externally oiled w/spraybar) on my N42 head to an internally/drilled cam, I've seen conflicting views on whether to run the spraybar. Some say it's fine as long as you run a high volume oil pump with it (I am) and some differ on that opinion, Could I run without the spraybar by just blocking off the spraybar holes or, do I have to use the cam towers from an internally oiled cam?? Any and all suggestions are appreciated!!

I'm going to put a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler on my '73. It has the stock exhaust, but with the pre-muffler/resonator swapped out for straight pipe (nice improvement). I'm trying to choose between 2" and 2-1/4" for the muffler; both larger than the stock, I realize. My friend Beandip has been helping me with this but I'd also like to see what others think, and maybe Gary has more to say now. The amount of noise -- stock muffler vs. 2" Dynomax vs. 2-1/4" Dynomax -- anybody care to estimate the differences? Like, say, 1.5X louder than stock, 1.8X etc? Thanks! Steve
