I read more posts than I cared to. Exhaust tones are very subjective. I like the deep throaty sound but hate the tooth loosening drones. Most straight piped mufflers are suited only for the young or track. Without installing acoustic materials in our old Z's they all reverberate like soup cans with tires. As a daily driver, I lean towards compromise between comfort and performance. Most people want that too only it takes a bit of experience to understand it. That is why many of us have installed open exhaust only to be disappointed if not down right frustrated at the end results and swapped it out looking for our ideal sound. To the point, I had a Tanabe Medallion in…

1971 240z. Summary = problem: car died, wont start... gets spark, maybe no gas. I got my car running the other day and i drove it around the block a few times. The engine ran smoothly aside from a few exhaust leaks. in fact, when i got it started it was no trouble, it just started right up. Then i was told the following from somone else who worked on the car: 1. I plugged the vacuum leak on the top pipe (that goes no where) with a piece of tube and a screw. That brought the idle down a bit so I adjusted the idle arm slightly to make it sound a little smoother. It was starting and running real good. 2. I decided to plug the exhaust leak, so I bought some stuff. While th…

Just ordered water pump for my '74 260z, as mine needs replacing. Looks fairly simple. Anybody out there have any insight on replacing this? Any horror stories? Is it as easy as it looks? Thanks all!

Has anyone here used one of these or know anyone who has? Are they any good? I've used them on V8s before and been pretty happy. Are they worth the money on a L6 though?

Can anyone out there answer my question? I am planning to install a F54 engine from an '82 ZX 2+2. I know the flywheel diameter is larger in the 2+2 than the coupe. What difference would I find in running the larger flywheel vs the smaller stock flywheel from the 280 coupe? My understanding is the weight is equal, but the larger diameter may not spin up as quickly. What are your thoughts? Thx, Bryan

I found out that the spark plug wires I bought from NAPA for my Ford Escort really aren't the same as the OEM, because the resistance was way off! It caused the idle to be a little rough, less power, etc. Is that normal? I got the wires for my 280Z from NAPA too, so now I'm wondering if I should pitch those and order a "correct" set? The NAPA ones weren't what I would call the correct length, either, and the boots (esp. # 5 &6) weren't bent correctly, from all the photos & cars I've seen (stock class cars). I think the same for the ign coil too. My L28 seems to have (less power than I would think). Who should stock the right spark plug wires & coil for …

Hi everyone I have a question about horsepower. From what I ve read the stock hp of a 1974 260z is 139? On my 260z the plate under the hood says hp is 167 or 169. Whats up with that? Thanks Chris

I have been looking to replace my busted diff in my 280Z for a while now. There are only 2 I have found around here and both seem awful expensive, but I'm running out of options. The first is the stock 3.54 gears from a 78 for $175 and the second is the 3.9 gears out of an 82 for $200. I figure for $25 I may as well go for the 3.9s. If I was to install this on my 77, would it require adjusting my speedometer or anything like that? Also, will this hurt my fuel economy on the highway all that much? I finally got up to 22mpg from the 17 I was getting and would kinda like to keep it at or above 20 if I can. Thanks.

When I started my front cover removal I neglected to take pictures knowing that I would remember how to reassemble the different parts that I removed. Wrong. I have looked through all of my manuals and can find no reference to the location of the bracket that I removed. I have since taken pictures of all steps that I now take in removing different engine parts. Which leaves me with the bracket. I don't know where it goes. I have attached a picture of the bracket. Can somebody clue me in on where it goes? Thanks.. Clueless in Pomona.

So I bought some headers of ebay that have quite a bit of surface rust, so my question is should I use some sanding discs that are for sanding parts like this or should I take them to a shop to be bead/sand blasted? If I used sanding discs what would the effect be on the metal if any? thx Ian:)

I just got a good oilpan for my L28 off eBay because the one on the car is dripping oil. At the last oil change, we looked at it ( followed the oil drips & hosed it with cleaner) to find what the problem was. the leak was directly below the oil sender, but I don't think that was the culprit. It looks like there are some pinholes in the oilpan, maybe from rust? Do you think I could repair the leaky one and sell that? I was thinking about sandblasting then silver solder. Could you solder both the outside & inside? Gold would be better, but also more expensive. I could even use JB Weld, but that would probably show, and not look good. Opinions? thx
