Hey guys, i took my Z over to JDM concepts here in Oside. Gabe and Omar hooked it up big time for me, especially with whats to come ....Well this is basically a stock 280zx motor in a 240z. My other motor is in the works and so this is my Daily driver motor for now . -1972 Datsun 240z -280zx 2.8L OHC "stock" -34 total degrees timing after 2500 -MSA Header 6-1, Fidanza Aluminum flywheel, Spec stage 2 clutch, SU carbs "stock", R200 4:11 126hp @ 4800 153tq @ 3700 I plan to use one of my spare cams to get a regrind for this stock head to mirror off my power band. A .460 lift / 270/280 cam should move my powerband a bit higher and make it more useful. I do realize this …

between the oil pan and block. I replaced the gasket already, but one of the PO's overtightened the pan and warped quite a few of the holes. In addition, the pan is slightly warped. I did not have the time to straighten it out, so I put on a new gasket and reinstalled the pan. I will eventually repair the pan, but in the meantime is there a way to seal the exterior? I am thinking of using a silicone sealant where I spot the leak. Mind you it is a slight leak, but enough to make a mess of the garage floor (I have some cardboad down now).

I dont know what i am doing wrong, i started the car up recently after some time now, and i replaced plugs and battery and distributor parts. I rough adjusted the timing buy turning the distributor till the engine sounded like its getting better. Is this not the correct thing to do? I turned it one way as far as the bolt would allow, and its still rough. It runs for about 30 seconds and then starts to shake a little and almost die. if i press the gas pedal the car dies. Is this a carburator problem? could sombody tell me what i might do and also suggest a way to do it as i am not a pro at fixing cars. thanks

A P/O modified my car a number of years ago to include a 5-speed. I'm wondering, and I'm sure this is a shot in the dark, if there's a way of knowing which Z 5-speed is under there now without actually pulling the tranny. I've read that later, ZX-styled, tranmissions have a noticeably different ratio for 5th gear, bringing the engine RPM down at cruise speed, is this true?

I searched past threads and could find nothing about how to remove the front pulley while the motor is still in the car. I was thinking about using a chain wrench wrapped around the pulley and let the tension of the wrench against the garage floor act as a brake, but I don't know if that will damage the pulley. Are the treads on the crank the normal counter clockwise to remove? Any help will be great guys. This should be easy but it has me stymied.

Trying to learn as much about the L28 that I just bought as I possibly can. It is an L28 with an N54 casting code. It has an N47 head and the cam is an "E Marked". I was doing some reading and I can't tell if this is the normal cam that came in the N47 head or if this is more of a performance cam. It is my understanding that the engine was built by a guy who has rebuilt a number of these for racing. If anyone has some info as to whether this is the stock cam or what sort of performance I can expect from this setup let me know. As always, thanks again! Just learning as much as I can about my engine configuration before I drop it into my 73 240.

So I ran into a little luck recently. A friend and I were going to build an FP autox car but the shell we had was way too rusty. Before we discovered the rust, my friend bought (for $800) 2 motors, 1 set of wheels, 1 set of tripple Mikuni's with manifold and all the linkage and some other stuff from an old racing friend in California. So all the stuff came in this winter. He sold the wheels and make back $200. I striped the Z to a shell and discovered the massive rust (got the car for free) and we instead started to race his E Mod Z this year. So now the motor and stuff is just sitting there in his garage. I just got finished helping him install 2 motors in 2 trucks whic…

The pics aren't great but I think it's out of an '81-'83 because it's got that little plate on top of it. Any guesses, I may try to buy it if it is a later 5-speed?

Look at this pic... Would you pay $350 for this cam? I sent it back and it came back with a new dowel pin. Same camshaft that had been returned with a broken shoulder. Help!

Bought a professionally rebuilt L28 engine today. I hadn't planned on buying it and instead planned on rebuilding the L24 I had in my Z but got a great deal and couldn't resist. Now I have a few questions so I figured I'd ask all of the experts here. This place is a goldmine of information. Anyway, I have a 73 240z with an L24 block and E88 heads. It has a 71 intake manifold on it with 71 SU carbs. The new engine I bought is a L28 with N47 heads on it. I have the fuel injection to go with it but I'm debating whether to just put my 71 intake and carbs on it (I prefer the carbs more than the FI but I'm on the fence at this point whether I should go carbs or FI). I think the…

Well, I am making some progress on my L28 swap into my '71 track car. Got my new intakes on and the engine/trans back into the car. Here are a couple of pictures of the new intakes. Who can guess what's different about them? Marty
