Here is a new twist in my '83 L 28 swap into my '71 track car. It's the F54 block with P79 head. Planned on using the carbs and a ported intake. Got headers from Jet Hot coatings for the P79 head. When I went to put the intake back on, I could not get it to seat up against the head. I looked underneath to see what was going on and I couldn't believe it. The bottom inside corner of the intake is contacting the header tubes!!! @#%&*#%@@!!! Check out the pictures. I have heard of dozens of people doing this swap and I never heard anyone say they had this problem. Looks like I am hosed now!! Damn, I keep running into one road block after another!! Rant over. …

To upload a photo into a thread, just scroll down to "manage Attachments" when writing or responding in the "reply to thread" area. To upload photos into your own personal gallery, click on any of the 6 pictures on the front page, when the page opens to veiw those pics, look to the upper right hand area for the "upload photos" clicky. Then go from there. Hope that helps, at least a little, Dave. P.S. MIKE!!!! there's something wrong here!!! My reply just went to the top of this forum whats up with this or is it just my computer??????

Here are some pics of what a person needs to do in order to convert the hydraulic lifters over to a hybrid solid adjuster. I just completed this P90A head conversion. My solid cam works great!

Anyone know the correct length for the bolts that hold the EGR valve on the FI Intake manifold. (See reference picture attached. Area is outlined in white) With just the EGR blank plate installed on the mainfold I'm showing them to be 8mm x 1.25 x 10mm. So with a EGR valve installed I'm thinking the bolts are maybe 20-25mm long?? webdawg1

Hey guys, recently my N42 cam and camtowers took a dump. The cam is now trashed, same with the cam towers. I have a spare P79 head lying around and i plan on installing the rockers, cam, and camtowers onto the N42 head. My question is, will the stock (F) cam from the P79 create a problem with running the N42 head on an F54 block? I heard that with this high compression setup (10.5:1) i should use a performance cam to relieve cylinder pressure and prevent pinging. Would i be okay if i used the stock cam and retard the timing?

Is running the early metal cooling fan on a daily driver really a bad thing? I seem to have heard that it is hard on water pumps. Is it all that bad though for a daily driver? Or is it only a problem for sustained high RPM use?

Can anyone here recommend a good place to take my cam for a mild street performance grind? I've found several places on the web but I'd like a personal recommendation if possible. This isn't for my Z - it's for my other Datsun. No one makes an aftermarket cam for the A-series so a grind is the only option. I figured some of you could recommend a good shop. Thanks - Michael

Just a quick question about the valve cover bolts....I'm showing a size of 6mm x 1.0 x 45mm on a 75 280Z. Are they the same size for all model years?? (I.E. - In other words are they the same size from 70-78 or would they be a different size depending on model year) Seems to me they would be exactly the same size for all model years.....anyone want to measure and confirm this....Switching over to "Allen Head" stainless steel bolts and I was just kind of wondering..... webdawg1

As I prepare to swap a four speed in place of my car's automatic, I find that I almost blew it. The pressure plate that I was planning to use doesn't match the throw-out bearing collar I have. Not a big issue since I discovered it now, as I have the proper pressure plate as well. But the new disk I have is the 75-83 225mm disk, not the earlier 70-74 225mm disk. Anyone know if there is really any functional difference? I have an early one to compare with, and there certainly doesn't appear to be any dimensional or design difference. Yet MSA's catalog does list a different disk for those years. So short version - Can I use a 75-83 clutch disk with a 70-74 pressure plate?
