I have a 78 280 2+2 that has an engine with NO CATALYTIC this is factory (gotta love it) any way my question is, it has a dash pot with a white plastic fitting on the top that appears to need a hose attached. The problem is I can not for the life of me find any thing that tells me where is gets hooked up to or even if it does get hooked up to anything at all .I do know that when I blow air into the end with a hose is does make the car accelerate a little. Does any body have any ideas about this?

After removing the FI from my 77 280 and rebuilding SU's and installing them I am finding I need to adjust the carbs from time to time. I think I need new choke return springs and I can t seem to get the choke set up just right yet. Ok .. my question is .. what type of air cleaner system do most of you have. The video from ZT states that the stock air cleaner is the best but I find it a pain in the a$$ to adjust carbs quickly with it there. Looking forward to your responses. Cheers ..Bruce

Here is the history of my new engine. The history on this engine is I started with a mild 'solid' camshaft that the guy in CA said would work. (There were also a couple of articles on the net about running solid cams in P90A heads) It did not work. It pumped up the lifters in about 5 minutes where the engine would stop and not restart. The valves would all be open. Makes sense to me that a hydraulic lifter will not work on a solid cam profile) I could not drive the car and we had to push the car back into the shop. I then put a stock turbo hydraulic cam in the car with stock lash pads. This drill ensured me that the engine was sound. The engine ran beautifully. It idle…

I'm going to need a set of pistons for the L24 I'm rebuilding for my '71. The block will need to be bored to clean up rust pitting (the engine was sitting outdoors when I acquired it), but won't need much so I'm open to any reasonable overbore. Since this car will be a total street machine, I think sticking with cast pistons will be fine. Anyone have a favorite brand or vendor that they'd care to recommend? Obviously I'd like to spend as little as possible, but I want good quality. Oh, I noticed the current pistons have valve reliefs in the top. (P30 block, E88 head from a '72 240Z.) I suspect that replacements will need those as well, do they all come with them?

I am trying to find out if any one has done or seen an L20A crank in a L28 block and what it does for perfomance. Logically it should allow the motor to rev up faster.. Also, what type of connecting rods and pistons were used for proper deck clearance? If you are wondering how i got an L20A, my skyline original had one installed, i need more power :stupid: !!! thank you, chris

Has anyone turned their engine over by hand and seen the timing chain go slack when compression seems highest. Maybe this is just indicitive of high compression engines when cranking with a wrench because my other engine that I know has no problems does the same thing..

So here is a not so hypothetical question - assume that you are building a mostly stock L24 with a small valve E88 head. You have two cams to choose from, an internally oiled late L28 cam, or an externally oiled L24 cam. Which do you go with, assuming everything else is the same? Is internally oiled enough better to use that one rather than the possibly better cam timing of the early cam?

Just replaced the r180 3.9 open with my 4.6 lsd r190 tonight and found its turned into a locker!! Its been sitting on the garage floor the last 10 months but was working perfectly when I pulled it from my 510, now its jumping around the corners just like a locker. Should I keep driving it till something breaks free :paranoid: I always thought when a lsd stuffs up it turns into a single spinner, or do I have topull it out and reinspect.

Where would the block be cracked if water froze? I am assuming the pass side but none are visible, all freeze plugs(new) look good and in place. #3 cyl had water in it. There was water in #3 cyl. Could it possibly cracked the head and not the block?

Hi, all. I have a 78 Z and am missing one wingnut that closes the air cleaner housing. Does anyone have an extra one hanging around I can buy? Thanks, Jim
