I have an early 71' and am running into the problem with the diff front mount/insulator where the only one I can source is from '72 onward which pushes my diff backwards. I've heard you can rotate the mount 180 and it will bring it forward. I have also installed the RT Diff bracket with the red Bush on top pressing down on the diff to avoid going back with the strap. Well since my diff has moved backwards (i think) because of the newer front insulator the RT mount is falling right on the yoke which is no good. I haven't tried to rotate the mount yet and reinstall.....The car is at my friend/mechanic/body guys shop but after taking it in and out about 4 times yesterday I g…

Are you guys using anything special for intake/exhaust fasteners? I’m using a Datsun Motorsport header that has been on my car since the 70’s and a non-EGR L28 intake that has been extrudehone’d. The EFI will be controlled by a Haltech Elite 2500. I was going to just order some new fasteners from the ZStore but I thought I’d ask here first...

Hello to all. . . Purchased my little car after it was driven into the ground and then parked for 17 years so there was no shake-down drive to listen to rear end, trans, engine etc. I currently have everything behind the transmission completely out and am cleaning up and spiffing up or replacing, shaft, brake, frame, stub-axle, wheel bearings, suspension components and bushings, et. al. as I go. Removed R180 diff, cleaned it up and took to to a gear shop hoping there was a cheap and easy diagnosis to tell me if it seemed like it was in decent shape. I didn't see any metal or crap in the bottom or on the magnet when I drained it. I was told by several gear places that l…

What do you guys do? I'm thinking of RTV on the pan then a cork gasket then another thin skim on the block. Overkill? Just the cork gasket? Just the RTV? Thanks for any suggestions. Cliff

Hi. I am rebuilding a L28. (N42 Block and N47 Head) I want to build a good NA motor. I'm young, and I am looking for your wisdom. I do not want to turbo, and I wanna make anything above 200hp. How should I go about this? Edit: I forgot to add, my budget is around 1,500 to 2,000 dollars. Any advice would be, very much appreciated. Thank you, and have a blessed day.

Anyone know what size hose this is from the throttle body to the AAR on the 78 I thought originally it was 5/8” but that seems way too large. Also anyone have a good hose recommendation it’s pulling vacuum can I just use heater hose though? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi I’m the owner of a standard 6/1972 Datsun 240z, which I recently changed the clutch on (with a new clutch kit) because of an oil leak from the rear main seal. All went well on the install and when I finished I began refill transmission with gear oil (Pennzoil Synchromesh). My owners manual calls for 1.5 liters of fluid in the “transmission case”. I ended up filling the transmission, but it never came overflowing out of the fill plug hole after using 2 bottles (which is roughly 2 liters). Should I continue filling until it flows out or hold off? I should also note I had the transmission upside down for couple of days and small amount of fluid did drain from what I belie…

I now have around 150 miles on my freshly (last year) restored '71 240. The differential seems quite noisy so I checked the oil level (finger tip reaches oil), then drained it. No sign of metal filings or debris on the magnet. I drained it into a four-litre ice cream pail and it only filled it to 15% capacity. I put in new hypoid lube, but in a 1 litre bottle I've still got 700 ml left with the diff filled right up to the edge of the fill plug. the FSM says it takes approximately one litre, or .21 gallon. Just to make sure the oil wasn't all backed up in the diff casing, I left the rear of the car on jack stands and lowered the front. Very little difference. I'v…

Hey mates A few months back I completely R&Red the cooling system on my Z. New Radiator, hoses, pump fan and fan clutch - everything but the radiator was from Zcardepot. Also did the thermostat and gaskets there. The cooling system works wonderful the only issue I'm running into is that the fan is on, all the dam time. It was never like this before I replaced the clutch and it seems a bit overkill to me (I know I live in Arizona but still). I know these clutches can be rebuilt but has anyone run into this issue with a brand new clutch? Thanks Cheers.

Anyone out there have any plans on rebuilding/refurbishing the "A/C Idler Pulley" with a new bearing?? (Squeaking badly, Real loud during operation...etc...etc) If so I ran across a local source in my hometown (Columbus, GA) that has the bearings. Took the old idler pulley in to these guys and within about 4-5 minutes I had a brand new bearing to go in that puppy. Did some looking around in the microfiche before I went in to talk to these guys and it looks like the same pulley was used starting approx. Aug '73 (Fiche 59-12, Item #161) thru approx.1978. (Fiche 24-2 From Dec '74, Item #29) Have included a picture so everyone knows which pully I'm making reference to. Think…

I got this motor free with the 240z I bought. After inspection, it looks like it sat in a mud hole for a few years... Is this a lost cause? Should I turn it into scrap?
