Hey.....this will be short and sweet. What I need to know is which headbolts are the longest. I will be running back by the junkyard Monday, and I need some headbolts for my engine stand. I have attached a picture below, with the bolts I am guessing are the longest, since they pass thru the cam towers. Click on the pic if you will and let me know if I have made the right assumption. Sorry for the lame question, but this will save me a bit of time.

Hey all, I have a question. I am almost finished putting my everything back together on my 280Z and I have run into a problem (go figure). I need to put the timing chain back on, but the chain has no timing marks (no silver links) at all. I have wiped it clean and have looked closely at it from all angles and see no 2 links that appear lighter in colour. I know I need 42 links from the mark on top to the mark on bottom. When counting links, do I count the pins as the links? or is it something else.

I'll be buying some new bolts to bolt the tranny to the engine... It's looking like it's a 10mm, 1.50 pitch. Confirm? Can anyone fill me in on length? Or a pic of what it should look like (collar, etc.)?

I have an opportunity to purchase a complete L28 F54/P79 motor from an '82 280ZX for $250 + the cost of a rental trailer to get it home and my time. The odometer on the car it's in reads 260K+ mi. I pulled the plugs and turned it over via the crank pulley bolt and it's definitely not seized, but lying under it I can hear what I believe to me compressed air leaking past the rings into the crankcase with the plugs put back in. Based on the miles this is no surprise to me. The upside is that the motor is still in the car and hasn't been directly exposed to the elements like another I am looking at from I believe a Maxima, which brings me to my questions. Base on the mileage…

I am transplanting an '83 L28 into my '71. I want to use all of the original wiring for the '71. I just talked to MSA about getting a new Nissan oil pressure sending unit. They said the Z ones are NLA and they wanted to sell me the roadster unit. This would require hacking up my wriring to install an eyelet style connector, which is what the roadster unit uses. Is that true, or is there somewhere to source the correct 240Z Sender? I would rather not cut up the wiring harness if I don't have to. I have also heard the aftermarket units are crap too. TIA, Marty

I have a 280Z engine with an E31 head on it. The head has the big 280Z valves. It has a light Maxima flywheel. I am thinking about rebuilding it. I will hone it, put in new rings and bearings and seals. I will true-up/surface the head and have a trick valve grind done on it. It will have new valve seals of course. I will bead blast the bare head and paint the block/pan. What is a long-block worth in today's market? Is it worth it to me to spend the time and money to freshen up this motor? What is it worth if I install a distributor, a new set of ZTherapy SU's and a set of headers?

yeah...finally got the old 2+2 running again with the SDS system, and Sporks (zcar.com) intake manifold. and? theres nothing like it. Eddie Radatz from E. Radatz motorsports drove it...said its on of the strongest NA L28's hes ever seen...the thing is INCREDIBLE. from 2K all the way to 7K it just PULLS...timings set to 35degrees non vaccum adavanced, valves adjusted, and cam timing advanced a little...the engine is incredible. its still running a little rich, so i need to go dyno tune it a lot to get the right power curve. rest assured, i will be at this years SEZ with the car...be on the lookout.. i dont have any updated pictures, only a few which ill upload now... if y…

I've been looking at my M.S.A. catalog and can't seem to find return spring for my SU's. Does any one know where to get new ones. I tried searching but didn't come up with anything.

I'm getting ready to rebuild my L28 and need some advice from the group... Current setup: Block: from '80 ZX Head: N42 Cam: mild performance grind (will probably upgrade to more agressive this summer) Fuel delivery: Weber DGVs Exhaust: 6:1 header + 2 1/2" pipe Pistons: flat tops from 81-83 ZX Option 1: Bore block to next size and replace pistons Option 2: Use an L26 block and bore it out to stock L28 size and reuse existing pistons. This was recommended to me by a local Z specialist. I can get an L26 block from him for $100. As I see it without having fully priced everything out yet, the differnce in cost between the 2 options is probably not more than $150 with option…
