This might be a silly question, and I did search thru the archives for an answer first. When I pulled the engine out of it last year, I did a compression test but Im not sure if I did it right. My numbers were all between 150-155 across the board. I remember the car was warmed up, and I tried it with the choke open and with it closed..I think these numbers are with it closed. I left all the plugs in except the one I was testing. Its too late to recheck now, as the motor is on a stand...so my question is what are the numbers supposed to be? and am I o.k. with my numbers? I read somewhere as long as they are all close to each other, thats good. I dont know the history of t…

Noisy Engine Fan 1 2 3

Hey, This thing with my Z has sort of intrigued me since I bought it. I'm wondering why my engine fan is so loud? It almost had me tempted to upgrade to an electrical setup... except I'm not certain if I feel comfortable putting yet another load on my electrical system. You can hear me coming from a half block (or more) away, because my car sounds like a semi-truck. I'm told that it's loud(er) because it has so many blades displacing air, but I somehow doubt that Nissan intended for it to be quite this loud... any suggestions? Bent/dirty blades? Worn belt?

Only when the clutch is engaged and accelerating especially in first gear. The further up the line of gears I go the less the noise. So...car in first gear, pull out , sounds like the noise is coming from the left rear wheel, a sqeaking sound like something needs to be greased. Shift to second the noise lessens, third , less and fourth almost totally gone. Its loudest in first gear. If the wheel is rolling on its own and not under a load from accelerating the noise is gone, only when you give it gas does the noise start ( the squeaking sound) almost like something is hung up on the wheel , but its not , have checked the pads , no problem. Any help will be greatly appreci…

Okay, so I've been in the process of changing my headgasket and I have it all done except the put back together part. Now I have hit a brick wall. After I had the head surfaced, they had to remove the Cam and it's not back the same it was when I dropped it off. What do I need to do to reset the timing on here before I put it all back together. If you need to know anything, I can let you know anything necessary to get this running. I have never worked on cars before this summer, so I honestly have no clue what I'm doing aside from what I have read on this site and others like it.

Ok while the site was down :disappoin did some other research on building my engine. Found a thread on Hybrid Z about improved valve stem seals on a L6 engine. Here is the thread with some pics. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=90825&highlight=felpro+ss72686 What was said is that Ford seals from a German Ford 2.9l V6 will fit the L6 engine. The part number for these are Felpro SS72686. I am wondering has anyone ever heard of this or used these seals for there head rebuild.

I have a late 72 (L24), oil pan and a L28 oil pan, and I can't tell the difference. I've read elsewhere that there is a difference, but I can't seem to find one. Is there really a difference? Thanks, Pete

I just joined the website and I am also new to Z-cars! I live in california and I would like to drop a 350 sb chevy into my 76 280z and have it still be able to pass smog. I am also on a budget and would like to do this as cheap as possible. If not; I would like to know what kind of power I can get out of my L-28E motor with bolt-on parts like a full exhaust, cold air intake, 60mm throttle body, and a crane XR-3000 ignition box! Any suggestions would be highly appreciated, thanks!!! :classic:

On this site: http://www.upgrademotoring.com/performance/240z.htm, there are cams from a company called JUN.? I am assuming it is Japanese. These cams are long durration, the shortest is 296 and they go to 314 or so, but the lift on these cams is only in the .350" range. Usually cams with that type of durration are in the high .400's" to .600"+ range. What type of power curve would this type of cam produce? Is this unusual or am I not reading something right. They are very pricey too.
