i am under the impression that my block is from a 280, i just dont know what year...is there a way to tell from a stamping on the side or anything? thanks steve

My clutch felt sloppy, so I checked the fluid and it was very low. I filled it, but it obviously needing bleeding. I bled (with a vacuum pump) and it now works beautifully, but very tiny bubbles appear in the master cylinder when pumping the clutch. Do I need a rebuild kit or new MC?

Inspired by another thread asking about power output, Lets get this thread going as a reference to anyone asking the question "How much power can I get from my L series engine". Rules. Rule Number 1. If you have had your car on a Dyno post your power output here, Attach a image of the dyno result. Rule Number 2. List what series engine you have and any modification you have done to the engine ( eg L28 , .40 overbore, type of cam (durations ), induction, compression, exhaust) as much info as possible. Rule Number 3. Nissan L series 6 cylinders only. Rule Number 4. Dont post if you dont have a dyno reading and an image of the reading to attach. We want this to be factual…

anyone know what the production month or casting numbers for early and late E88 heads.I have a 240 with production date of 5/72 with original engine on engine stand.I have a L26 engine with E88 head as well as 71 SU's.Any difference in the heads?Thanks for any and all help.

I know there is a thread somewhere, but I don't know what to search on. I am sure that there is a word for the engine running a few seconds after you turn it off, but I can't recall. Is this a timing problem or a mixture problem? A point gap problem? I have adjusted all of these recently. Thanks.

When i bought my car it was going to need a new clutch so the PO gave me a Borg Warner clutch kit,, i think its like 6 piecies. The clutch went out and i dident have time to do it myself so i sent it to the clutch doctor and was going to have them use my parts but they would not put a warrenty on it so i just kept them and had them use theirs. My question is how much is a Borg Warner clutch kit worth? i want to sell it. It is brand new still shrink wrapped.

i'm sourcing a temp motor for my Z and found one in a local yard in a injected 280. the car shows 210k on the clock and the motor is quite dirty, covered in dirt/oil, but it is all sealed, the oil cap was still on, and there was oil in the head when i removed the cap, and oil in the pan when i checked....i'll be replacing all the gaskets on it, but without really just buying it and trying it out, is there any tips to maybe spotting a decent motor in the yard? i was thinking maybing yanking the valve cover and checking it out...i'm sure someone has done this before, any suggestions? steve

I have a friend with an early L24 engine with an E31 head and SUs attached. The thing has been sitting out in the elements for years but looks pretty good from the outside. Any idea what the just the E31 head and SUs would be worth? I'm thinking of making him an offer.

TWM lists two air horns for the Japanese SU. 1 3/4" with 44 mm Air Entry 2700-4450 44 50 88 FR 1 3/4" with 48 mm Air Entry 2700-4850 48 50 88 FR Which should I buy to pair with a pair of ITG air cleaners? MSA sells some too but I have heard they are smaller than stock air horns. I believe the MSA ones are by TWM.

I'm thinking of doing an engine rebuild over the winter which would likely result in a .020" overbore and saw that Victoria British has a piston and ring set for $240. That's a lot less than anyone else so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience these pistons and their quality?

Hi all, I was just looking through the online ARP catalog and found that they don't carry Datsun specific bolts for flywheel and pressure plate. They do however have a selection of these bolts for both Honda and Toyota metric applications. So does someone happen to know if our flywheel bolts are M10x1.0 or M12x1.25? Same question for the pressure plate. Thanks, -e

Hi Guys, I have a basically stock 75' 280Z and I was just wondering what I could put in to get a little more power off the line from my L28. The only things I have done to the car is heavy gauge wires, new plugs, and a K&N Cold air induction system. If you have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. Jason
