Hi guys and gals, I sprung a leak in my '79 280ZX radiator. it is a small hole, in an easily accessible location, and i was wondering if it is easy to fix something like this. it looks like the hole was caused by a dent in the tube, probably from a rock. Also, what materials are required, and any other advice would be appreciated. I know the best solution would be to buy a new radiator, but I'd rather fix this one. Thanks, Ty

My Z started making noises like a U joint flange had come loose so I inspected each joint and found that the left flange that connects to the left stub axle was just flopping around. Removal of the flange revealed that the staked nut had sheared off right where the threads meet the splines. I had a spare stub axle so I drove out the broken axle and installed the spare. The original broken axle had a larger diameter threaded section then the replacement and it used the staked nut. The replacement used a nylock nut. The replacement also had a copper bushing and the original axle didn't. I installed the copper bushing with the replacement stub axle. When I test drove th…

Please forgive me for asking a question that has been asked before .. but I would like to be sure of the answer. I just bought a very clean 77 280 ..some body rust but otherwise in complete condition and runs and drives great, interior perfect.. $700 CAD. I intend to restore this car and would like to change the auto over to a 5 spd and install carbies instead of the FI system. Can someone please tell me what parts I need for the auto swap and any things to watch out for. It seems to be this should be quite easy. And also what are the pros and cons of the carbie's over the FI? I just dont like the FI system either looks of it or the akward operation of it compared to othe…

Hi All - I bought a project and I'm not really sure of what I have. Some pictures are in my gallery. This was gutted and fiberglass 1/4s and fenders were added (well, one 1/4 was 'installed') to make a SCCA/race car. The L24 is long gone but I received an N42 L28 in the deal that appears to have new pistons & rods. First of all it's a 9/71 production date 240Z - is this a `71 or `72? My guess is a 72. Here's the short block: N42 L28 (#119106) P30 crank (what crank is this - is it good?) new pistons with the designation "50 mm / ID .12" on the top of them I have 2 heads: a bare E88 with what appears to be some mild porting a N47 with what appears to be a fresh valve…

I tried a few searches but came up empty handed. A link would be great. I bought my 240Z from the original owner who says the original engine was rebuilt, but the paper work from 1991 says, Qty..Part number........Name of part..........................Price 1.....1010B-P7110RE....Reman Niss. Eng --> 7/79........1515.13 which leads me to believe he bought a remanufactured engine which would not be numbers matching. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks, Z

Hi All, I have a question for those of you out there that are using a 40 series flowmaster muffler. I am going to be installing this muffler on my car (an otherwise stock '78 280Z) and was wondering whether or not you should keep the stock pre-muffler when using this muffler. Any advice would be greatly appreciated since I really dont know much about the pre-muffler or how it would affect an aftermarket exhaust. Thanks, Derek.

Hey all So a couple weeks ago my friction disk finally bit the dust. I got another and at the same time decided to replace my clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. First I went to the import auto parts store in Pasadena and they sold me a no name brand Japanese made replacement set for my '73 240. When I took them home and unbolted my original Nabco and got to comparing them I found the replacement's rod was something like 5/8~3/4" too short. Considering my original one was adjusted all the way out I figured this wouldn't work. I returned both and drove down to MSA. MSA sold me a matched NABCO set which I assumed good and brought home. The threaded rod difference was…

hey guys, well today i took the head off of my 260 to try and ID it but im still not sure what i have, even after a good hour and a half of searching Z sites. lots of contradictory info out there that left me dazed and confused. :stupid: So.....I measured the valves and they came out to be 30mm exh. 36mm in. as far as i know the head is stock and it does NOT have the little bump in the combustion chamber i have seen on some e88s, which leads me to believe its a LATE head? no? it also has a little gap between the deck surface and the combustion chamber. in other words, the shape of the chamber and the deck dont blend into each other. what do i have? this is driving me nu…

This subject was brought up under another thread. This is a debate wether the z v8 transplant is worth the trouble? With engine style is better? Which engine revs higher? Which one is older? BAsically which do u prefer and why do u prefer it?

Hi all, I have recently installed a 79 280zx motor into my 71 240z. I tried to bolt the exhaust pipe back up and realized that the 71 exhaust pipe flange is smaller than teh 79 exhaust manifold flange. What are my options to connect the two pieces? I've searched and all i've found is that the exhaust shop can fix it. How would a shop fix this? seems like they would need the exhaust pipe from a 280zx in order to fix it. Could i get an exhaust pipe from a junkyard and swap it over my 240? Considering i'm out of budget and in no rush to finish, what do you z guru's recommend? Thanks, Ty

first i just wanna say thanks for clicking on my thread, now my problem is kinda dumb, and irresponsible of me but i just have to ask for some help, i took my '72 240z Datsun engine to be rebuilt, bought new replacement parts instead of using the old rusty parts i had, and put everything back as it was within the car, or as i thought it was, tried to start the car up, but didnt come on, i think that the wiring is way off, and i was wondering if anyone had any images of wiring, or .pdf files, or any other ideas of other things that can be wrong, i really think i just put things in the wrong place, so i need a wiring diagram, i would be in your guys and if there lady mechs …
