I've rebuilt Z engines a couple of times now. I have a new set of pistons and am about to begin prepping, polishing, and balancing the various parts. When it's time to press pistons back onto the rods, I've always taken them to a machine shop to get the job done. I'm thinking about doing this myself this time. I have access to a shop press, but I don't know much about what tricks might be involved in pressing the pins into the pistons. How many of you have done this step? How many of you have screwed up this step? Dave

Hello fellow Z-car enthusiasts, I am in the process of doing numerous performance upgrades to my 240Z. Currently I am getting ready to match port my intake to my head and port and polish all the runners of both the head and intake. The problem I am confronting is that the intake and the head ports as of right now are almost a perfect match. I could simply get away with cleaning away the casting flash and smoothing the bores for better flow. However the intake manifold gasket (Fel-Pro) does not match the ports on the head very well. It is misaligned slightly in opposite directions on each end of the head. If I shift the gasket to the right to better align the ports o…

I just went and got a 5 speed tranny from a 1979 280zx. I know that I will need the flywheel, clutch kit, master cylinder, slave cylinder. I have a slave cylinder hose on its way. Do I need the starter and the driveshaft or can I just use the auto driveshaft. Any other things that I will need, please let me know. Thanks in advance

Okay then, well I've noticed that my radiator's got a few spots of rust on it, and as such, it's got a trickling leak. From what I know about this engine (L28), I wouldn't imagine that removing and replacing the radiator would be a huge undertaking, but as a relative newbie to engine work I can't say that with any certainty. So what are your experiences with replacing it, and what exactly is entailed in performing this task? I'll consult my Haynes manual in a bit for an 'official' explanation, but I'd sort of like the 'unoffical' one first. Heheh.

Got a quick question for anyone who has rebuilt SU carbs. Does anyone sell the bushings for the throttle rod that runs through these carbs and is notorious for leaking air into the carb affecting mixture? I know ZTherapy replaces these bushings with a sealed roller bearing when they rebuild a SU but I was hoping that maybe someone has replaced these stock replacement bushings and could provide me with a little insight. Thanks, Don.

Every time I type in a search for 280Z on Ebay, a listing for one of these invariably comes up. What I'd like to know is... are they any good? Does anybody have one, or have you heard one? I get the distinct impression that they have a sort of rice-burner sound, but I don't honesty know, so I'm asking.

Hi, I have just done the diff in my 71' Zed and I have a spare R200 which has 4.5:1 diff gears (I think?) My question is what parts do I need other than the diff itself. Do I need 260z half shafts and moustache bar?? Any help would be required and vendors who could help me out in the South East Queensland Area, Australia. Thanks Luke

I have to choke the carbs in order to get the engine to run. After letting the choke off, 10 sec. later, the engine will sputter then die. What is causing this? Could the carbs be durty? I haven't touched anything on the carbs when doing the engine swap. I am very upset. :tapemouth
