She's a 80-zx-10thAN, Red and black. 1 of 500!!! It was working great, but I decided to fix it and in the process I broke the Ported Vaccuum switch. Today I replaced it with a new one, and it still runs like it's being choked to death, spewing this eye burning vapor all around. "****"! The previous owner put a Car-Tech Turbo on this L28, and it makes a high pitched sharp sound when I rev the engine. All of this since I broke the thermal switch!!!!! HELP FREDZED

I now have the car running and it sounds good. All vacuum hoses replaced, new NGK plugs, new valve cover gasket. I noticed that coolant is seeping from the block at the cylinder head (where they meet) near the #6 cylinder (near firewall) on the passenger side. Does this sound like a blown gasket or is this a sign of a cracked block or head? When I changed the plugs I noticed that this cylinder's plug was the cleanest of the bunch (no carbon). The car is not overheating. Any guidance is appreciated

Today I finished the final preparations for firing up the rebuilt engine I recently installed in my '73 240Z. Back in March I developed a head ache, so to speak... A white, billowy, sweet smelling smoke was issuing forth from my exhaust. I had hoped it would only be a bad head gasket, but turned out to be a problem with the head itself leaking coolant into a few cylinders. :dead: Anyway, off with the head, took it to T&D Auto in Hygiene, CO, a fine Z focused shop. Sure, they could replace the head, but they said I should bring the engine in, too. So, about a month ago I picked up the rebuilt engine. I was still working on rebuilding the rear suspension, so the…

I live in Las Vegas since ten years and it is the first year I have real problem with fuel evaporation. I always fill with premium. The engine temperature is normal. Ater a drive, I park the car for ten minutes and I am not able to start back. After a wait of 30 minutes I succeed to start the engine with effort. Yesterday temperature was 113F. Any suggestion to fix the problem? Is there any emission control parts that would need to be replaced at 88,000 miles lthat could be related to the problem?

Hello Everyone, Well, I finally, after much research on this site, decided the exhaust system I will be running on my 280Z. The set-up: 2.25" exhaust tubing 18" Summit glasspack as a resonator dynomax utra flo oval mufflerhttp://www.dynomax.com/ultrafloweld.stm stock manifold (my engine is stock BTW) I chose this system because I want my car to be :devious: loud :devious: but not send my neighbors scrambling for their shotguns when I go to work in the morning, or cause my car to sound like a rice rocket. My question is this; will this set-up provide enough backpressure for a stock engine??? The reason I ask this is because while the dynomax I wil…

Started up the car after work the other day and the head sounded like it has something broken in it. With the sound of cash registers ringing in my ears, I wonder if I could get some help/information regarding a rebuild. The thing is, at some stage in the future I would like to build an L31. I don't have the room to put the original block aside at the moment so I will have to stick with the L24 for the time being. As I might as well do a head rebuild properly, I don't want to throw money at something which is suitable for the L24 and not an L31. Basically, what I'm asking is - is there an appropriate head which I can build up, put on the L24 block and then later use on an…

I have a 78 280z, 4-speed manual transmission. The transmission works great, but there's a lot of play in the shift control lever.. I'm thinking that the control lever bushings may be dried out. I bought a pair of bushings, but before I go crazy I was wondering if the bushings can be replaced from the interior by removing the console and boots...or do I have to drop the transmission and do it from there. Any ideas?

I was sucked in by a TV infomercial for this stuff years ago. Here's an ebay link that basically gives you the lowdown on what it's supposed to do. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4559991153&category=6755&sspagename=WDVW and for those of you who want the official skinny, here's the manufacturer's website: http://www.zmax.com/ Okay, now, I've already gone through and seen some threads about people thinking about using oil additives in engines that are potentially choked with carbon on the inside, and I've seen that those people are generally deterred from using 'cleaning' products in their engine. I'm to understand that th…

Anybody with technical knowledge of this transmission model? I need to know how to fix the following problem. When cold, it shifts nice in first gear for the next 500 feet and after, there is no more power for three to five seconds. Its like the engine is disconnected from the transmission. I give some throttle and it engages back. When hot, this problem never happens and always shifts properly. I check the oil level when hot and the engine idling and it is at the low level. With the engine shut the oil level is at full. This problem happens when I turn at the corner of the street and I am wondering if it is not the pump that sucks air because of not having enough oil. I…
