I'm getting ready to pull the motor/tranny from my 72 and need some help. When mounting the engine to a stand I should use the threads which currently hold the bell housing to the block...... correct? Anyone know the size on these bolts without removing one and measuring? I also realize I'll need some good size, high-grade washers. I plan to measure the stand "arm" depth + depth of the bell housing threads + washer thickness to get a good length bolt. Anything I'm missing? I've got all the manuals and they say simply "use bolts", duh! :stupid:

Well after scrapping the RB idea as it would have killed my budget and the Trust twin turbo kit not fitting as it's made for a RHD (It's for sale now check classifieds), I'm back to using the parts and motor that I have had on hand for the last 5 years. Here is what I'm having the machine shop do: Block • Clean/Inspect • Bore/ Hone “as neededâ€ • Remove phillips screws for block vent screen • R&R Freeze Plugs • Magnaflux Main Bearing Bolts 14 • Clean Front Cover and Oil Filter Mounting Plate • Remove Flywheel Keys • Clean Oil Pan Crank • Clean Polish/Balance • Pull Torque Adapter Plate • Remove Crank Bolt • Remove torque plate adapter on tai…

This cocca Z i bought last week has a very clean body and interior but engine is hammered. I also picked up a rebuilt L24- complete with head etc.; with about 30K on it. Reportedly very good components. So it looks like I am in for a swap. Forgive my ignorance. I have all manuals on order, hehe. What special tools will I need? What to watch out for? Hints, tips, links..... Thanks guys, Charlie

This is a 73 Z with 3 mikunis and a 6 into 2 header, which I have just got. The valve cover vents into a k&n filter in the engine compartment--not connected to intake and I'm not positive if there is a PVC valve stuck in there. The crankcase vents to a stinky filter/cover which fits over the pipe on the left front of the motor The gas vapor return lines from the resevior enter the fuel vapor control valve, then 2 vacum sized hoses come out of that valve and are cut. They do not appear to be plugged. Fumes are a concern, and I wonder what suggestions you guys might have to deal with these engine compartment contaminators? Thanks Charlie

OK, I have an '83 turbo motor with the dished pistons and no turbo. Since it is an f54 block and probably needs rebuilt am I better just swapping for a NA L28 F54 or getting flat top pistons for the engine I have? If I do get new pistons, what would the parts numbers be? Would using the KA24E pistons from a 240SX or the pistons from a 720 truck be a better and less expensive idea? Since I don't have the diesel crank and am not trying to build a monster high octane motor are these other pistons a poor choice? Just want some extra power, kind of a sleeper thing. I know that's a lot of questions, but I have someone here in Wash. State who wants to trade me a NA L28 F54 …

I recently received a timing cover gasket set from Victoria British, part # 53-702 manufactured by ROL gaskets (hecho in Mexico). While I'm fairly pleased with the overall set there is one problem. On the gasket that goes on the left side of the timing cover (if your standing in front of the car looking at the front of the engine) there is a hole in the gasket for one of the oil gallery's the one I'm talking about is the one that goes from the pump to the filter. This hole is cut in the wrong place it is off by about 1/4 of an inch or 2 mm. Now this will probably not affect engine performance too much but it will restrict oil flow. I took a sharp knife and cut the gasket …

Hi guys, i'm 18 and am looking at picking up a 240z for a fun car, (i've got a corona exiv, but that 77kw 1.8 FWD doesn't exactly give me any thrills) and was wondering about engines in these cars. so the factory 2.4 is rated at 150 hp, about 110 kw?, which seems quite nice for the weight of the car. I've read a bit and see that chev 350's are a reasonably popular engine swap, but i'm in brisbane australia, and am not too sure bout the availability of them or about local expertise knowledge bout these engines. Like i said i'm only 18 and most of what i'm saying is probably wrong and or stupid. What about sr20dets? many people put them in? or would it be better to keep the…

How many miles can a stock 240Z engine, regularly, but easily driven, and very well maintained, be expected to run well and reliably until needing to be rebuilt? Cars doesn't burn or leak any oil or other fluids now, at 149K documented miles.
