I had a question. On my 72 240z, It idles at like 1200 now which i can live with but when you press on the gas it takes like at least a min. to Idle back down. Normaly it stays at around the 3000's. And it gets kinda shaky when you are driving it around and come to a stop real fast, most of the time it ends up dieing. I just don't know why it takes so long to idle down??? HELP!! Could it be a vaccuum leak, possible in the smog pump hoses? because i know they are letting in air, I had a set of plugs made to plug them but haven't gotten home to try them yet. Do you think this is what it is? THanks guys

hey guys, i've got this problem with my 260 where it tends to smell like gas in the cabin. i have some small holes in the passenger floorboard which i just recently for zfest this past weekend put duct tape over to see if that was the problem and its not. the car was tuned by zotz in orlando which is reputable for such work and the rear hatch seal seems to be in place and in tact. when i bought the car the previous owner told me it has a schneider stage 3 race cam and it does lope at idle, but i dont think that's causing the gas smell to get in my car. i'm pretty sure all my gromets in the firewall are in place like they should be. does anyone have any ideas as to ho…

Hi all, i apologize for not doing much searching before posting, but i'm pretty busy right now and under somewhat of a time constraint. I'm recently engaged and busy doing wedding stuff which leaves little time for surfing the web and working on cars. My situation is that my L24 engine spun a bearing, and i've picked up a running L28. My desire is to put the carbs from the L24 onto the L28. I've read a few threads about FI vs carbs, and i've decided i like su carbs for sentimental reasons. Question #1: What should be replaced while the engine is out? I'm thinking that anything made of rubber should be replaced, but that may get expensive and perhaps time consuming. …

hey guys, for the reason listed in my "strong gas scent" thread and the fact that i think my car would run better with it i was thinking of stepping down from whatever big race cam i have that makes my car lope, though that part is cool, to something smaller and much milder. has anyone used motorsport cams and if so how do you like them? any other brands anyone would recommend? i know crane is the big name and they also have a sizable price attached to them. maybe i should just step back to stock cam for a bit. thanks for your time everyone, brian -broken74-

Ok, here is the deal. My 280Z is in dire need of a new exhaust. The original one was cut off right after the pre-muffler and the previous owner just stuck an old honda muffler in the hole, put a clamp on it and called it good. (this is just another reason i think he was an idiot). Anyway, it needs to be replaced. Problem is, many of the new exhaust systems are made for either stock manifold or for headers, and not usually both. Are headers all they are cracked up to be? would performance be that much better than the manifold? I ask because i need to decide whether to get the manifold or header exhaust system. If i went for headers, i would have to wait another 3 mo…

I live on the Sunshine Coast in Australia ans through the Summertime it gets really warm. I'm talking up to 35 degrees celcius. Now engine cooling is not a problem as I have twin 11inch thermo fans on a re-cored radiator. My problem is severe engine power loss from extreme heat coming from the extractors. When I first start the car in the morning and drive to work it is very responsive until the engine gets warm then I think the webers start to suck in the hot air and the power is lost. I am looking for plans to make some sort of a heat shield to reduce the heat drawn in from the webers, or other ideas to help me with my problem. I have thought about the hot coate…

Hi Guys - I bought this L28 nearly a month ago. Pretty much will remain stock except the camshaft, the distributor, the fuel injection system and some cooling stuff. I will be putting the AZ Intake Manifold w/ the Holley 390 CFM Elec. Choke 4BBL..hopefully by the end of March I will buy one. Idle too fast 1 2
by MDyer- 14 replies

After warm-up, my 77 wants to idle at "way too high" rpms. A quick punch of the accelerator only works some of the time. Not long ago, I removed the air filter and housing prior to doing some grill work; I have not replaced it yet. Could the free breathing be causing it to idle so fast? (The car exhibited the same symptoms prior to removal, but it's much more pronounced now.

hey guys...im back from zcar.com. those guys are giving me such poo poo cause im 18 and apartenly i built my z wrong. anywho, i reinstalled my old pulley, and it came apart. luckily i heard the noise, and stopped before it flew off. so now im getting a new one. problem is, the pulley almost welded itself to the crank. i got it off, hoever, there are a few marks on the very end of the crank, where metal from the pulley has attached itself to the crank i talked to Eddie Radatz, where i live, and he said hes seen it before, that all you do is get some sand paper and carefully sand the very tip of the crank down, where the metal is, and slide the new pulley back on. also get …

Fan shroud 1 2

I am thinking of adding a fan shroud to my 71 240Z !!!! I fell it would help the radiator to get more air and keep the car running a little cooler !!! I live in Florida so the cooler the better. My 72 has one but 71 or newer Z's did not come with one. Is a fan shroud from 72-78Z cars interchangable ????
