I'm getting ready to replace the valve stem seals on my 280z with the head still on the car method. The descriptions I've read say to turn the engine over by hand. Whats the best way to do this? Is it safe to use the cam shaft sprocket? Vince

When you hear someone talk about or see an ad that says rebuilt engine, what was actually replaced? I recently purchased a 78 with high mileage. Engine and tranny will be coming out to re-paint the engine bay and I want to get the engine rebuilt. So, what needs to be done to restore? Looking forward to the list...

I have removed the smog pump, and the hoses up to the tube that is connected to the exhaust manifold with 6 little hose bolts. Well i can't seem to find the right size wrench to use, I have tried both metric and regular, any ideas?? I was also wondering what size plugs I would need to plug these holes up. If you have any info, please let me know! THANKS AGAIN GUYS!!

I have had my 240Z in my garage now for going on 3 years. It hasnt been driven because it is undergoing a full restoration. The motor was completely stripped down, hot tanked and rebuilt by Rebello nearly 3 years ago. Up until 18 months ago, it just sat on an engine stand. It now sits in the car but still has not had any fluids since the rebuild. Even though the car is always garaged and i live in Northern California, i am concerned about the possiblility of damage. Should i be concerned? Is there something i should be doing while then engine is sitting idle? Thanks Mark

I finally got my 1972 240z running, it is alittle knocky, and lags a bit when you press the gas. I hope its nothing to serious. I did notice that there is a tube that is dissconected from a fitting. I can't reconnect it because part of it is missing, but when put my finger over the hole it runs alot better and not as knocky and loud. I was told it was hooked up to the smog pump but For resons unknown (probably for more power i'm guessing) it is unhooked. What should I do. I was thinking about pluging the hole and taking out the whole smog pump, Where I live I would not need it and its not doing anything as it is anyway? what do you think?

I posted a thread about getting the engine from the 78 280 I just purchased rebuilt. Now, I'm thinking about just purchasing a rebuilt engine. I've seen prices ranging from about $1600 to $1200 on several internet rebuilt engine sites. Seems as if these prices will be close to, if not better, than getting my engine rebuilt locally which I'm kind of hesitant about anyway. Does anyone have any experience in purchasing a rebuilt engine over the internet or have any opinions/suggestions on who is recommended for rebuilt Z engines?

The water inlet has three hoses on it. The one from the radiator, the heater core, and another smaller one. Where does this go to on a FI engine. I know on a carburreted car where it goes (to the inlet manifold to warm the incoming air), not sure about on the FI car though. Cheers Ray

My 2nd cylinder had low compression, the guy that looked at it said you thought the piston ring from sitting for 2 years was not good. I got it to run and drive finally. The dual webers need rebuilt I think, it was doing alot of spitting and sputtering, not much power, most of the time! Please tell me what you think I should do, are the webers easy/cheap to get rebuilt, and what about the 2nd hole, how much $$$$ do you think it will take? Thanks guys!!

I am building a 280 engine. How much clearance do I need in the piston for the wrist pins? (I have floated the rod/wristpins) One piston seems really tight with the wrist pin clearance being marginal. Will I need to relieve that piston so it is like the others? Or, as long as it pushes into the piston will it be OK?

It will be curvey roads with hills and then up to 4 miles of straight away, I need speed, what engine do I need to get me the top end, yet the pulling power out of the corners? It has to be a chevy engine! please let me know what you think ASAP!! Thanks Guys.
