My car is in temporary winter storage. I filled the tank before I put her away, and today noticed some black gunk on the garage floor I thought at first was from leaking diff. But actually it appears to have seeped from the left side of the gas tank. Very sludgy gasoline stuff. Not a whole lot, but it may be coming from the seam on the far left side of the tank??? I cant tell. I wiped it off the tank. Or possibly some of it is coming from the little hose on the left rear of the tank. We have this crappy alcohol blended gas here in the winter I had to put in a few weeks back. Anybody ever seen anything like this before? InMmarch Ill drive it to run the gas out and maybe pu…

I just swapped over fuel injection from a 77 z & have a high idle around 1400 rpm warm & low idle when cold around 650 rpm. There is no cold start circuit hooked up (all disconnected & blocked off) & I adjusted the idle speed screw all the way down. Could it be the water temperature sending unit or some vacuume leaks? The throttle plate does not seem to be sticking open. Anyone out there with tips or suggestions?

I am rebuilding an E31 head using 280 valves. The stock 280 head gasket does not give enough clearance to properly unshroud the valves. Is there an aftermarket head gasket that has a larger bore than the stock 280? I am going to use the head on an F54 block and will champher the bores as well. I know several people have used this combination and I would appreciate any knowledge they gained from their experience. Regards Bob M

Why do I see a lot of tuned Z engines in Japan swapping out their chain tensioner for a toothed pulley instead - I know Kamerai makes just such a conversion, this is a different type I've also seen where it goes in through the front access cover on the head... Are they that prone to failure???

Is there any way I could get more performance out of my EFI without running something like Megasquirt??? In order to get the kind of power Im wanting (170-180 rwhp), I have been told I can't without dumping loads of money into a new injection system... and replacing the restrictive stock intake manifold... Any ideas? thanks. SU Carbs are still lingering in my mind....

Just bought a throttle body from an Almera 2.4 on ebay hoping it's similar to the one on the 240sx KA24DE (60 mm). Have any of you guys used this on a L28? See pics of intake project here: http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=7337

Found this Trust Twin Turbo kit on eBay.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7945759914&category=33742&sspagename=WDVW HS30-H would you happen to know if Trust really released this TT kit for our cars.. or if this is some home garage fabrication.. also it looks like it was removed from a RHD car.. so putting it into a LHD car would require some modification right... with the steering rack right? Anyway.. maybe others wanted to see this

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew the intake and exhaust valve clearance for a 78 280z when the engine is cold and also do you take off the rocker springs for this adjustment. Thanks

I need to get a new AFM for my 78 280Z, because the dealer tekkie said it was messed up from somebody trying to adjust it. The omly problem isthat the number plate on it is worn clean, so the part # is not there. How can I determine the correct part # for my engine? Could I just upgrade to the 240SX AFM instead (assuming it's an improvement)? I will be returning to the dealer to have them adjust whichever AFM I get later. thx.

cleaning the carbon from the pistons I pulled from My L28...and they say Y34 on the top. I wouldnt have thought anything of it, except that one piston is differetnt, it says 'std' and appears to have a deeper dish than the Y34...any ideas which is the standard L28 one and where the other type came from ?

After I went through most of the EFI (checking areas that could have produced the symptoms of surgeing)... I cleaned connections (TPS AFM thermotime and CSV and water temp) Checked out the AFM and cleaned it up, purchased a new cap and rotor, new plugs and wires and ignition coil. And also adjust the TPS. And to no avail.... One of the things I did not think about and regretfully overlooked was the injectors... what if there were particles perhaps blocking injectors, causing fuel blockage which could cause surges... I went to the store and bought 2 bottles of prestone FI cleaner and put 1 in before getting some nice 93 octane... and WALA, drove the car for about 30 mins …
