Hey Z people, Has anyone or does anyone know weather or not I can turbo an F-54 block with flat head pistons. I figured out the compression ration would be 8.07:1 the stock turbo L28 was 7.45:1 (I think) Is the extra compression gonna be a problem? Rock on Z people

I have been looking in the new MSA Holiday catalog and came across the Crossflow Radiator. Does it cool better than a top down stock one? I would guess the fluid stays in the cool lines longer then just flowing down with gravity? I would also like to know what some of you opinions are on the electric water pump. Thanks

Have found an engine from an '82 280zx. Have only discussed this over the phone with the yard owner and was told that it has a P79 head on a F54. First is this the correct head for the '82? Or has the previous owner switched the head from a P90? The car has about 120,000 miles and is a 5-speed. Looking for a winter project and trying my hand at a rebuild. Any thing I should look for before buying this? The car has the gas tank and radiator gone so I can't start it. Thanks for the help.

Ok guys, picked up my 72 240 today and already started working on it. The Good; has the round top SU's on it (built before 9/72 i guess), and the Single point distributor (prime pertronix conversion). The bad; Won't start. Checked ignition that's good. Fuel looks real filthy in the fuel filter, but no gum/gunk in the lines. Sprayed starter fluid in the intakes and she fired up one crank! But then she dies. It's running on the starter fluid only. Here's my question: I stuck the feed hose in a tank of clean gas with a new filter. If you look at the clear filter it looks like the gas is barely being sucked in by the Fuel pump. You literally see it trickling into the filter. …

First off, a disclaimer: I am an EFI guy, so these carbs blow my mind. I've got a 240z with an L28 and the SU carbs. This motor is on its last legs... but still runs pretty strong. It burns a lot of oil, however. I am going hybrid with this car eventually, but I need it to get around until that time. It seriously runs nice and strong everyday, but I've noticed a problem late at night when its really cold out (southern california, not snow mind you) I'll be cruising in high gear on the freeway and it just cuts out. It does it mostly when I apply the throttle under heavy load, like high gear uphill, or when passing cars. If I try to throw a lot of throttle at it quickly, it…

I own a 260z with the stock engine in it (it is/was my daily driver). A couple days ago I was driving and all of a sudden the engine locked up. I got my dad to help me tow it home the next morning and I thought that all I needed was a new cam so I wasn't that worried. My auto shop guy, who all he does is work on Zcars and has been for over thirty years, told me that the engine was gone and that I needed an entirely new one. Everyone is telling me to get a new car but like many of you on this site know, you cannot just get rid of your Z, that it is a part of you. So my question is: What type of engine would be best to put into it? An RB and SR are out of the question …

I have a box of that nickel-plated faux- braided hose covering with the cheap red-colored plastic clamp covers. I would like to know if others have any experiences with the covering, like how it looked, and what things to cover. An alternative to the cheap red clamp covers sounds good. My suggestions: radiator hoses fuel lines in & out ??? thx

The exhaust side of my gasket is shot and I assume this also means there's damage to the intake side, resulting in exhaust gas ingestion by the motor and one of the contributing factors to the poor performance of my car. I have the new gasket already but I was wondering how much it takes to replace it? Do I acctually have to entirely remove the intake and exhaust manifolds or will I be able to just unbolt and pull them away from the head enough to take out the old one and slip in the new one? Basically I'd like to know if this is a one hour job or an all day job? Thanks in advance. btw: I have a '79 280zx.

I have a 1977 280z, and I have been troubleshooting this area since I got her home on the 27th. It seems to be in great running condition, no smoke or any other problems that I have found. She runs a little rich(you can smell the fumes) and the engine idles at 1500rpm (which is too high). I would just like to get some feedback on the subject, maybe some possible solutions? I appreciate it guys. *Note* I can idle her down, I don't know if it would change the richness
