I have a strange problem with my 73 240z that has got me stumped. My setup is as follows: - Original 240 bottom end - E31 head - stock - 72 3 screw SU carbs - early 70's aircleaner - Pertronix electronic ignition with coil - stock exhaust - all smog removed, except EGR which I've put a gasket under to make sure it stays closed Whenever the engine compartment gets hot, the idle begins to slow down and the engine stumbles. This will happen almost everytime I park and let the car sit (engine off) with the hood closed for about 5 or more minutes. Even now when the highs for the day are only about 50. Yet a few weeks ago when we had highs in the 30's the problem never show…

Has anybody tried using "top engine cleaner" to decarbonixe an engine? that's what it's for, right? To de-carbonize? Also, where is a good place to get some. the local NAPA didn't have any. thx

I just put a new distributor on my car. I had some problems getting it running... I out the plug on the #1 cylinder, and waited for it to get to the top of the stroke and hooked everything up acordingly. I forgot that it could be at the top of the exhaust stroke, instead of the compression. So I took the head cover off and looked at the cam. I finally got it all hooked up, but now when I put my timing light on the #1 cylinder to time it ( one closest to radiator) I cant even find the little timing marks in the crank pulley... but the #2 (second from radiator)I can barely see the timing marks and it gets fairly "lopey" when I set it on them... My idle screws may be …

After searching the archives for my quest to make a HOMEMADE cold air intake... I concluded the following: Get a 90* Bent Mendral Bent tube with 3" inlet and 3" outlet Get a K&N Cone Filter with a 3" inlet SO I started looking around for mendral bent tubing.... yeh... really hard.. so I came across this website JCWhitney.com and I found 2 that closely matched my needs : *90 Mandel-Bent Aluminized Tubing, (A/B)=12, ©=6", ID=2-7/8" OD=3" $20.99 http://www.jcwhitney.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10101&storeId=10101&langId=-1&productId=219788&mediaCode=ZX&appId=384383 *Swaged (Expanded) End 90 M…

Hey guys, my 280z (1978) needs like 10+ key turns to turn over, i cant hear the pump buzzing untill about 5 trys, then it still takes a couple, it pops, sputters then finally starts, idles rough and a little higher than normal and when i give it gas it shudders and sometimes dies. Do i need a new fuel pump? i looked in the fuel line when i replaced the fuel filter and i saw some stuff in it! what should i do? Thanks alot.

I've got an E31 head on its way from Portland. It appears to be in pretty good shape and I was thinking of putting it on an L28, preferably with flat-top pistons. Are there any problems with having too much compression? Should I be thinking about bigger valves. OR.... I currently have an E88 on my L24, would it be better to just swap the E31 onto it, rather than going with the L28? I have a 1971 240Z with a build date of 12/70 and has most of the features of the first gen. Series 1 body, interior, etc., but the engine numbers don't match and someone has already swapped a 5 speed in, so doing a total restore to make it original is not what I have in mind. I like…

I was wondering, and im sure some others were, what heads come of what years/models because i read about 'e31's and 'N-something-or-arthors' and i dont know what your all talking about. Im sure it would be helpful to alot of us if someone could name the heads avaliable for the L24/L26/L28 and their differences.

Hi, My Z got nice hose clamps but their screws looked different from the original round head screws. I went to the DIY shopping store,I found nice screws to meet my taste. But they were not be able to be applyed as they are, need to be trimed at the tip. I got a nice idea,I bought a drill machine and a sander to trim the tip of the round head screws. It did work!!I made roughly 30 screws for clamps. I want to show you. kats

Hi everyone I'm looking for a bit of guidance on headers/extractors for my L24 block with triple carbs. Problem: once I fitted my triple 45 webers, the existing (after-market) headers did not suit. The no.1 and no.6 pipes from the headers almost TOUCH the underneath of the inlet manifold (which runs from the carbs to the engine). Result: the fuel running through the inlet manifold is vapourising/bubbling away, so the car starts to *splutter* once the temperatures get up. Question: To any of you out there who are successfully running triple carb set-ups, WHAT BRAND OF HEADERS ARE YOU USING? Also, are you using any kind of heat resistant material (e.g. heat tape o…

There are two oil senders on the right side of my 83 280ZX block that I am putting in my 240. The one part I threw away, a short sender switch with a fuel injector type (2 electrical pins) cnnnector is all that is keeping me from starting it up. It goes behind the oil filter (the other one is the canister that goes in front of the filter) and towards the top of the short block. Seems like it would be a oil temperture sender, but I can't find it anywhere on the microfiche at carfiche.com. What the heck is it? What is the nissan part #. I would get a plug, because I don't need the switch but the hole appears to be some funky pipe thread pitch (spec).

When doing away with my points, is it better to use a petronix kit or a later model pointless dizzy swap?
