What does it mean when there is tiny little bubbles in the oil or on the dipstick when I pull it out. Also would anybody know about the lock up on an automatic tranny, a mechanic I took it to told me about it but didnt explain it very well, and my car has been overheating still and I was thinking it could be the lock up on the tranny. Thanks

Hi all, I have service manuals for my '73 240z. But am rebuilding my '81 F54 L28 shortblock & don't have manual for the ZX from which it came from. Are torque values different from the L24 for F54 L28 rod bolts? main bearing caps? flywheel? cylinder head bolts? And if they are different, what are they please. Thanks! -e

Okay folks, I got the 73 out of winter storage and drove it today. I primed the oiling system first then fired her up. As I was driving I noticed a puff of smoke out the exhaust in between shifts. Anyone have a guess as to where the oil is getting in at. I would guess a valve stem seal. Havent run a compression check yet. Car was great before put away for winter. All gauges good while running. Could it be a PVC valve issue pulling some weird issue under the valve cover? No smoke while idling or under throttle in any gear, just between shifts. Thanks in advance.

Ok, My question is, can i make 200hp with the stock engine with mostly boltons(header, cold air intake, ignition, and fuel system) and still have a reliable engine? relisically though, 200hp is enough. I just want to smoke the doors off v8's once in a while. Thanks, Tom

How much play does your distributor rotor have? I know there is some centrifugal advance that will move if you really twist it, but I'm talking about just turning the rotor with minimal pressure. I am asking becausemy rotor has about ~5-10 degrees of play. I am just wondering if this is making it difficult to get the engine timing just right. thanks Matt

Help! Have a 240Z with L28 engine, the previus owner did the upgrade, wanted to know which type of diferencial the car has. Is it possible to see it from the outside?

I'm reading an article in one of the cruise magazines that we have here in Florida. The name of the article is "10 Engine Wives Tales Debunked". #2 Fuel injection always makes more power - Fuel injection does a great job when throttle position changes often. For types of racing where the throttle is wide open most of the time (i.e. drag racing), a carburetor is a formidable opponet - especially when matched against throttle body injection. I know what fuel injection is and I know where the throttle body is, but what is "Throttle Body Injection". Is that whats on the FI Z's? Vicky

I've got a 260 that I just changed the carbs over. The price was very right, cheaper than SU's by a long shot, so I now have dual webers on it. I've got them tuned (don't know why everyone bitches about that) and her idling nicely. When I was doing the tuning with the engine running, it sounds like something(s) is clanging inside. Not pinging, but kinda clanging. My neighbor says it sounds like my lifters are bad, or I've thrown a bearing. Can anyone elaborate, or offer some advice? It looks like my valve gasket has been leaking oil slowly in the front for some time judging by the greasy depositing that goes down that side of the engine. Meaning, I will probably…

Howdy, My 240Z was in storage for about 6-7 years. I changed out the coolant and oil. I removed the carbs and cleaned them. I also drained the gas and put in about 8 gallons of 91 octane. I put gas into the float bowls and it started up and ran wonderful. I drove it for about three miles and then it died suddenly. It started up once more and died about 15 seconds later; this time for good. I pulled the hoses that go to the carbs and cranked the motor. Gas is getting to the carbs. What should I check next? Thanks, Steve

I got a 71 240 with the original engine in it, hooked up to a newer 5-spd tranny. Original SU round top carbs. I'd like to build a new motor for it, for the purposes of cruising on sunny week-end road trips. I'd like to keep it very simple, and dependable such as it is now... No complicated fuel-injection or turbo setup, or such. I've been thinking about a stroker motor, but after reading this article http://www.geocities.com/row4navy/engine.html on a 3.0 stoker it appears that going that route might get pretty pricey to do it correctly. Does anyone have any suggestions on what a good motor build for about 2-3k, with good low-end torque for crusing around would be?? Than…
