Fuel pump necessary?

The 73 I just bought has wiring for an electric fuel pump but it is missing. Car seems to run fine without it. That may change when summer gets here. Should I install one? Also, the interior reeks of gas. I replaced the taillight gaskets (taillight mounting flanges warped). Hatch gaskets aren't bad. Someone replaced one of the vent lines that needs to be sealed. Anything else? I guess my daily driver idea is almost out the window. Car needs a lot of "little" things.

Changing head gasket: Cleaning the mateing surfaces?

I've just pulled the head off my sisters 2L sigma to change the head gasket. Now what I am wondering is, what is the best way to clean up the surfaces in preparation for the new head gasket? Also, what's the best way stop any of the old head gasket gunk getting down into the bores while cleaning it? Thanks, Justin

My motor runs hot, and i would like to be able to drive long distance without having to worry about overheating. I've 160 degree thermalstat but it still gets way over those temps after having driven for a while, or jus idling for a while after driving. I've installed a pusher electric fan but have yet to drive my car. I was wondering if there were any to install an oil cooler or if there were any aftermarket oil coolers out there i can use.

Head porting

I just got my head back from the machine shop. They resurfaced it and installed new hardened intake seats. Now, I want to match port the intake with the head, smooth out the transition between the valve seat and the port and do a general smoothing. I will include pictures of my progress. Here is a picture of the three angle job on the seat. I'm not really happy with the transition of the port to the seat so here goes.

my vacume advance dont work on my 74 260 its retro fitted with 72 round tops, in the haynes manual it says that the 72 vac adv starts at 3.94 in Hg and the 74 vac adv starts 11.8 in Hg now can the 72 carb pull that vacume should i change the diafram to a 72??

I am in the process of building a turbo engine with an F54 block and a P90 head. After searching/reading many good pages of information on this site, my game plan is to have 300RWH. I have talked with Rebello Racing and Sunbelt Performance about doing the headwork. I'm sure that both shops can do a real good job but both are very expensive. Can anyone recommend other shops that I could talk with that do good work and might be less expensive? I live in South Carolina and I would like to use a shop in the Southeast. Ticking noise

How can you distinguish between a valve train ticking noise and an exhaust leak ticking noise? Coming from rear of engine. Wasn't able to isolate with a stethoscope, my nose, or valve adjustment. Very clear ticking noise at at idle, not distinguishable at speed. Thanks, Victor.

Hey guys, All of the sudden my car started running horrible... It was right after I thought I was going to adjust the valves, and got the cover off and then realized i did not have the right wrenches. Also I put on an adjustable fuel regulator. But I tested it after that and It ran GREAT! It did not run out of fuel at 60 anymore... One day it was running fine, and then when i was driving the engine started getting fuzzy and weak like it was starved for something, very aparent too.
