I own an '81 280zx that has been troubling me lately. I've done all the work on this car since the day I saved it from the junk yard but I've finally run into an irritating little thing I don't know how to fix. When it cranks, the tach will jump from 750 to 1200 in little jolts but after around 1500 rpms it's smooth sailing. My problem may be related to a discovery I found yesterday. The hose labled "DIST VC" (the top one) connected to the charcoal (aka carbon) canister isn't connected to anything...and I cannot find the connecting end for the life of me. Does anybody know exactly where this drain plug is on the block I cant find it , in the book it says its on the left side but thats all it says, and also what would happen if the thermotime switch were to go out in a fuel injected Z. Thanks

Anybody got any info on swapping plugs(Denso Q20PR-U11) Out of a 1986 300ZX into an L24? I found a new almost brand new set of these Denso's in my stuff and finally through deduction and autozones computer figured they are for the VG30E. The main difference looking at them is the Hex is 5/8 instead of the 13/16 of the 240. Perhaps a tad bit shorter? As for heat range and the like I have not got a clue. But if possible I would like to throw them at my poor 240Z. Not just toss them out. Being that i recently just got her running again after two years. any issues i should be aware of when taking the factory block out to 2.6L? '73 block, all original to my knowledge. i want to take it out to 2.6 just to clean it up and a slight bump in compression and displacement. could this engine be taken out any further? if so, what's the max? could the block handle 85.0mm? has anyone ever tried the L18 pistons in a bored 2.4L block? a company i buy alot from for my work also sells speed pro so i can get a good deal on a set. my speed pro catalog lists one set of pistons for the L6. this is the information they show: L6: 2565cc 2.6L 83.0mm (3.2677) <---no idea what this spec means 1972-75 car (non-USA) recessed head 1…

My car started heating(240 degrees)up on me and started being noisy. I towed it home. I thought the engine was toast. It started the next day to my surprise. I immiediatly shut it off. The camshaft had hardly any oil on it. Loss of oil pressure was one of the symptoms just previous to the break down. My suspicions are the oil pump. What do you think?

this apprears to go nowhere and never seen this on any of my other 240zs , and I am not required to pass smog, does anyone what it is and what does it do and can I remove without any adverse results, it located on the passenger side of my 72 240 on the fender it apprears to be a vapor tank of some sort, thanks Jeff

Hi all and Happy Holiday, Can a mechanical fuel pump be repaired or checked out? I'm getting a lean pop from my carbs. I blewair through the fuel lines and they seem clear. I also checked the fuel rail..clear. The carbs are new Z-Therapy units. Idle is fine but giving it hard throttle pops through carb. I also would like some info on vacuum advance. Are they adjustable, repairable or disposable? How do you check to see if one is functioning? The only other thing I can think of is the fuel pickup. Even though I hear bubbles when I blow on the fuel line, can the pickup be blocked? Everyone here has great opinions and comments to help others. I make sure th…

Hiya's I was wondering if a S20 head would fit onto a L24 block. I dout it but anythings possible. Would it even work? (after putting in S20 cylenders etc. etc.) But ive heard that S20's are as rare as hens teeth in Australia. Cheers Chris Beattie

Hello everyone I have been eavesdropping for a while and thought it was about time to post. I have had my 240Z since early 1981. I got it from El Paso, Texas (high and dry), in mint condition with 40,000 miles. In 1983, I converted to 2 Weber progressive down drafts, a 6 into 1 header and a Monza exhaust. In 1987, I did the modifications in my signature. With the arrival of wife, house and kids, the 240Z has ended up sitting covered in my garage unused since 1991 with only 68,000 miles.
