what would cause my 76 280z to overheat hile idleing? The radiator overflow is filled to the fill line and the radiator hoses are not clogged, but still if i leave the car at idle it will start to heat up i just push on the gas while idle to pull that heat off the motor and eventually the temp goes down. Thanks

Can anyone tell me where to buy the valve cover breather shown in this picture? It looks like a mini k&n filter on the top of the valve cover. http://www.schueracing.com/images/breather.jpg Thanks Mark

Ok, first off this isn't that big of a deal, more of a curiosity. I searched the forums first and didn't turn anything up. I know the older Z's are notorious cold starters. But now that the temp has dropped here in sunny Florida (31 last night), it took 25 minutes to get the engine warmed up enough to drive her. She lives in a garage and I left my shoplight on in the engine bay overnight for added warmth. (Yes I am a little obsessive). I have just recently purchased the SU Videos but haven't had time to tackle the adjustment yet. It runs good when warm, just a little afterfiring. I remembered the Summer/Winter setting on the air filter enclosure. I set it to winter and th…

The throttle on my 280zx daily driver is sticking when i release it recently, enough to hold the car from 1500-2000rpm when idling. Pulling the pedal upwards with my toes or quickly tapping the pedal will release it. Honestly I havent had a good look at it yet, but as far as i can tell it could be one of 3 things: 1. dirty throttle linkage joint somewhere between the pedal and the throttle body? 2. Actual throttle butterfly sticking to throttle body resulting from dirt or warping? 3. Linkage return spring on firewall not tight enough. Now the spring was the easiest to check so i looked and while it doesnt pull the linkage back hard to full extension, it still seems to be …

Anyone have any recommendations on what brand of crank seal might be better quality? I picked up a seal at NAPA for $5 and it says made in Taiwan. I'm a little skeptical about doing all that work and installing a cheap seal. I am putting a Redi-Sleeve on also. Are there any seal brands that are made in the US or Japan(not China or Taiwan)? Thanks, Victor.

hello all. question here , should I use a motor flush , the car sat for roughly 1-2 years , it has oil in it now and the car is running but I haven't driven it yet , was gonna change the oil and didn't know it would doing more harm to use and engine flush to ge the sludge out , I am gonna replace the sending unit and clean the cam oiler bar after I flushed the engine, Also anyone heard of putting tranny fluid in the crankcase to loosen up that stuff? I honestly don't know if it is that dirty show 84k on the odo and the papers the previous owner had suggest this is true as well , thanks

I am ready to finish the exhaust system on my '72 240Z. The engine has some work done: .030" over bore, TRW flat top pistons, .020" milled off head face, 3 angle valve grind, '78 EFI and the electronic ignition, 6-2-1 ceramic coated aluminum header(exit of the Y pipe is 1&7/8". On the body I have a MSA ground effects kit ( front sides and rear). The trouble that I have run into is the exhaust exit cutout in the rear valance is about 6" closer to the center of the car than the stock position. I think it is the location of a 280Z, but not sure. The question I have is: Will the stock bend of a 280 pipe fit properly under a '72 240Z? I would like to buy it - have it shi…

Does anyone out there have an idea what the cylinder compression on a bone stock 1972 240Z would be. The engine is now broken in with just a little over 3000 miles on it. This yellow rocket is one of those "Factory Restored" Z cars.

The local machine shop that installed my new valve seats removed the cam towers from my cylinder head. He said that the Haynes manual was wrong, and that so long as I was careful to re-align the cam shaft correctly when I reassembled the head there shouldn't be any problem. (He did mark the towers for position and re-attach them finger tight before giving me back the head.) (See similar comments by JMT240KGTR in a previous post.) BUT for some reason, perhaps related to their stand on not removing the things..., the Haynes manual does not list a torque setting for the bolts that hold the things in place. I have the cam back in the head, and it is lined up perfectly as near…
